FS-DE vs. FS-ZE ?

I am about to buy (fixin' to buy as we say in the South) a 2003 Protege 5 and am confused as to the type of engine it has. Several questions: 1) Is the FS-DE engine the standard/only engine available in North America? 2) Can a FS-DE be converted to a FS-ZE by swapping cams, pistons, heads, etc. or do you need to buy a complete FZ-DE engine. 3) What cars are available with the FS-ZE engine or where can I find one? How much $$? I have searched the FAQ's and found the different engine specifications, but not the answers to these questions. Thank-you in advance to anyone that can help.
