but what excatly does the motor mounts do ?
and what gains do you gain when you replace them?

Thanks

The motor mounts hold the engine in place. The stock Protege mounts are very springy and somewhat weak; they allow the engine to move A LOT when you shift and/or change throttle position, making the engine shudder, and they are also a contributing factor to the wheelhop that our cars suffer during hard acceleration out of tight corners. They also tend to break, esp. the No. 1 (rear) mount and the No. 2 (front) mount, which are the ones that the Kartboy and AWR kits replace.

The downside of upgrading the mounts is increased engine vibration inside the car.

What exactly is the problem? The No. 2 mount is held in place by 1 bolt and 2 nuts that are all very easy to reach and remove.

Yeah..It's Easy to get to..But the problem is that nut won't come off..I used a torque wrench..to no avail...i heard people say that some wd40 can help...

Also note that Wheel hop will trash your transmission. do a search and read up on "wheel hop". It's been discussed a few times and usually envolves $$$$ and pictures of chewed up gears.
