i ahve an injen CAI and i will try this mod tonite, if my engine blows up its ALL YOUR FAULT!!!!!!! LOL yeah but if anything else is getting through my cone filter i don't think that screen is gonna help much (IE WATER!) judging but the picture the screen's holes are big nuff to fit small pebbles throughit, if your air filter is allowing debris that big to go through it, that screen aint gonna help and you would already have engine problems so takeing that off wouldn't really be anykind of a protective device for the MAF

Seriously, there are only two potential drawbacks that I see from this.

1) this thing is made to straighten out the air before it gets to the sensor, and it's too thin to be very effective. But if it is working on some extreme cases, then you're going to have a rough running engine at certain rpm. I haven't noticed it.

2) Since the stupid ECU monitors very few sensors during WOT, it's not going to know if you're getting too lean. Again, these cars run rich enough from the factory, that you're going to have to do A LOT more then this silly little screen to have a real effect.

i asked a mazda tech and he said the sole purpose of it was to silience the intake b/c the motor was too loud. He said it does restrict air flow alittle but they feel its worth it to quite the motor.... or at least this is what the guy i asked did.
