Flywheel Chatter

Many (a few) people have complained about their car having issues with chattering when they take off for the first few times. Some described it as "the bunny hop". I too was experiencing this so I took it to the dealership today. They ordered me a new flywheel and clutch (under warranty). They said that there is a defect in the flywheel that caused hot spots so until the flywheel heats up it will chatter. So if you have this then take it to the dealer and have 'em look at it.

whoah!

Yeah, it had happen to me a few times. Every morning (like 4 times by now in one month) I thought I was making a bad clutch engage or puting the 3rd gear instead of 1st leaving the garage.

Now, that makes sense.

I had the same problem before...... I took it to the dealer like 3 months ago.... they said it was nothing, or they couldn't find anything....

yea only happens in the morning.... I thought it must have been me rushing to engage the clutch when I was rushing to school in the morning.....

how did u tell the dealer to fix it for you? I don't want to just go and them sending me back to tell me it is nothing again...

I'll try it again.

"azrakain":

I'm going in for my 15k mile service and see if they can spot the problem. I really, really doubt that they will identify it. I just feel that they aren't patient enough to help me Thanks for your info! So they ordered you a new clutch and flywheel, will it be the same parts? Will you encounter the same problems??

Excellent... thanks for the info Azrakain. I have this same problem. Hopefully my dealer will be as accomodating as yours.

In any case, you probably saved me from buying a new clutch on my own, since if its a flywheel problem, it probably wouldnt have made a difference!

Please keep us informed to see if the new parts solve your problem.

I'll keep you informed. If you need the dealers information here to get yours to push it through then here is my dealers info:
Casey Chevrolet/Mazda
Hampton, VA
(757)838-5450
Justin Burns-->service manager

They knew what it was as soon as I described it. They didn't take it apart or anything. It may have been a bad bunch of flywheels or something. He said it had to do with the tempering process, but it was under warranty anyways...

They said that they'd give me a loaner if they have to keep it overnight, otherwise they will drop me off and pick me up.
