Engine specs
Slightly off topic question follows......
Tried some web research, but didn't get much for info. I was wondering what makes an engine/car J-SPEC or Type-R or S-Type. What's the difference between 'em??

Type-R and Type-S are mearly just 'special edition' type stuff. Type Rs Honda's factory tuned cars. Think of it like a mustang corbra instead of a mustang LX. They have type r civics, integras (now rsx), and even accords.
Hope this helps!

So is there some magical amount of tuning that has to take place to make a 'regular'-tune car into a Type-R? I'm curious what has to take place for it to be offically a 'sepcial edition'. I mean, if I equip a cold air intake, do I get to start bragging that I've got a Type-S P5??

Perfect example, the Protege MP3. It's a special edition protege, think of it as a "Type-R" protege from mazda. So if you wanted to brag it up to your friends that you have a Protege MP3 when you started with a Protege ES, you would have had to have swapped the rims, body kit, spoiler, all suspension work, installed the front strut tower bar, and get the MP3 ECU.
To conclude, the only real way to call your car a "type-r" or something similar (which by the way don't, because you'll be heckled by import fans around the world) is by buying an original, or building one to mock an original. That's where ricer's originally came from, slapping type-r stickers on their US-SPEC 4 door civics, and stuff. Type-R, Type-S, Spec V, MP3, are all just badges for 'special edition' cars.

Well, the Type-R badging comes from the factory, that's how it get's the title... Honda could have called it Type-NOODLE, or whatever if they wanted to. Pretty much to have it be a special edition, you have to swap the major parts that MAKE it the special edition.
