Death speed?

whats the fastest a stock '02 Protege should/can go?

I know it shows 140mph but the fastest i've taken it is 110 and the ride starts feeling a little uncomfortable. Will the car shut off at any speed? How fast can I take it before the engine gets damaged

Well your 130hp will not pull the car to the point where it will damage the engine from over revving in 5th (Someone help me out here, I vaguely remember doing some math and that the car would be around 147 mph at redline in 5th, I can't remember if that was a G-15M-R box or not though.) Either way you will fizzle in a straightline around 120mph. People claim they have gone over it, some claim they can't reach it.

Do a search on a speed limiter, I don't remember what the final answer with that was becuase there was a massive argument about it. Personally I have never been able to hit one.

there is no govenor or limiter per say.....there is a fuel shut off that kicks in at about 7200 rpm....this is to keep you from blowing your motor apart from over reving it....

the math says....143 just as you hit redline in 5th....but our cars won't get there.....the little 4 banger don't got enough UMF to make there there......our cars are what is called "DRAG LIMITED". The drag put on our cars keeps them from going that fast.....personally I live at sea level....which helps a little....and on a good cool day...with the wind in the right direction.....I got up to the 130 mark before backing off and bringing it back down.....

one of our other members has turbo'ed his MP3...and has made it to the 140 mark...at least as noted by his speedometer.....he posted a pic......so there ya go.....more food for thought.

Talking Top speed

The top speed flat drag limited is 120-122. I have reached 135 on a 6% grade and it had more but I had rough tires. I will try to beat it with my new Prada Spec 2's

This is pretty classic:
one guy says "I went 110"
then the next guy is all "I backed off at 130"
the third guy : "135 for me"
Do I hear 140?
Maybe we can work our way up to smoking an RX-7!

145 for me.

I was drafting a nitrous-injected Ford Excursion straight down Mt. Fuji.
I was driving a J-spec 'gé with the FS-ZE engine of course.

P.S.

My posts are at 69. I'm never posting again.

guess you weren't paying attention.....I already told you one of our members hit 140 with his turboed MP3....and supplied pictures....

well i dunno where the speed governor on my car came from....

geuss i must have pulled it out of my *** or some **** like that

i've hit the speed limiter.... i've got proof from 3 friends who've seen it

maybe de 2.0L engines don't have it
but the 1.8L engines do have it

I'll take someone for a ride one time, and you can see den

the speed at which my governor cut in is posted on my sig. pic

There was a governor on my 91...MT with no tach, took it up to about 60 in 2nd at which point the engine went flat. The governor limits the RPM of the engine, not the speed of the vehicle.

In my '91, it was tire-balance and alignment that limited the speed of the vehicle.

I was just kiddin' around.
I can vouch for 110+, completely stock.
It was actually kinda funny:
1) Go 110mph with the salesman in the car, "I'm really interested. I wanna see what it'll do."
2)say "No, thanks" after scaring the crap outta him,
3)show up a week later in an identical car that I bought from a broker.
4) rub his face in the fact I got the car for $200 over invioce for 5 years at 0%! "Boy, you were really gonna stick it to me, weren't ya? Thanks a lot, BRO!"

Once again a governor limits speed (a.k.a Speed limiter) and a Rev limiter or fuel cutout of some sort ends damaging over-revving. A rev limiter will not stop a car at 120 or 115, while a governor will.

You said that a "Governor" limits the engine speed, preventing it from going way above red-line, this is a "rev limiter". Almost every fuel injected car i have ever driven has one of these. Technically most "Governors" do nothing with engine speed rather wheel speed hence vehicle speed. The governor moniters the total velocity of the car and cuts it once a certain speed is reached. A rev limiter limits the speed of the engine, not the velocity of the car. Generally a rev limiter will kick in at redline in every gear, in which a wide range of vehicle speeds are met. (1st 30some mph or so, 2nd 62mph etc...)

It seems like I am being a dick pointing these technicallities out, I am just trying to show the difference between the two. I am sorry if I seem like a ********...

So, 194kmh at 5600 rpm, means you would redline at 225kph (140mph). It also looks like you were taking a turn at that speed. Cool picture.

Thatīs as fast as Iīve gone... 195kph. I also felt like it still had some speed left, but I ran out of road and had to slow down.

I also think itīs apropriate it was called "death speed"... if something went wrong at that speed... death would certainly be the end result.
