Comparing the MP3 and Protegé5 ECUs

We had StutterC's MP3 here today, and had a little experimentation session on the dyno. We were curious about what difference the MP3 ECU would make on a turbocharged car, given that it runs more timing.

Not a huge difference on the stock MP3, but the turbocharged P5 sure felt the ECU. It was pretty interesting. We're going to have to deal with that advanced timing on the MP3 for sure.

I apologize

I am sorry, you have heard this enough but....

What is the expected price for the 6psi kit? Also how did the MP3 and P5 fair on the street? Have you guys upgraded the drivetrain at all (can the clutch and drive axles handle 6psi)? Does the open diff become even more apperant?

Thanks for the info

damnit, i had the day off from work today. no invitation for the mods of protegeclub who live in colorado to come down and get a free run on the dyno eh? or to just see the fun of ripping apart stutter' mp3. hopefully, your experiments will help out the 2.0l community when these setups are complete.

The expected price of the kit will be between $3000-$3500. The final spec is still being worked out. That will be a kit with all the parts necessary to run 8 psi safely.

On the street, the turbo P5 had pinging in a worst-case scenario: 5th gear, 3000 rpm, A/C on, 91 octane gas. We didn't take the MP3 on the street with the ECU - just forgot.

Anyone local is welcome to stop by and visit. Chris came by to do baseline dyno runs on his car and we took advantage of him If you are going to drop in, give us some advance warning so we can make sure the Protegé is 1) here and 2) assembled.

Hey, what you mean with that, can you rephrase that for me???, im not so good understanding english (i speak spanish).

for me, pinging is like a sound of a very little bell or just this:

Pinging protegeclub.com [216.185.54.16] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 216.185.54.16: bytes=32 time=166ms TTL=234
Reply from 216.185.54.16: bytes=32 time=162ms TTL=234
Reply from 216.185.54.16: bytes=32 time=157ms TTL=234
Reply from 216.185.54.16: bytes=32 time=156ms TTL=234

Ping statistics for 216.185.54.16:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 156ms, Maximum = 166ms, Average = 160ms
sorry!

Pinging is also called knocking, detonation or predetonation. It's when the air/fuel mix in the cylinders explodes on its own instead of being exploded by the spark. It's very destructive for the engine.

It sounds a lot like a diesel engine does - not all the time, but if you get any of that rattling you have a problem.

I have a 2002 1/2 protege ES, and can I put the MP3 ECU on my car? And how much does the stock rims weigh?
