Is it a good idea to remove intakes during winter months, I have a friend who removed it from his Civic. Since I live in MN which has a 8 month winter season, what should I do? Also does an intake have any negative effects on an engine? Longterm?

Leave it on....it won't hurt a thing....NO ill effects will come of it.

I second Nuke (who wouldn't?). You may even see some benefits from the higher density of the cooler air from your COLD air intake.

i hate to disagree with you guys.. but i pulled mine for one reason... when i first bought my car, i drove it through about a foot of snow. well, one day for s&g's after this, i popped the hood to take a look around the engine bay, and noticed that the snow was packed up around the tranny and i looked in that nice little hole over there and noticed a bit of snowed packed in there. it is open down there, and you can get stuff in there. this is just my personal experience, so i pulled mine off for the winter. i don't believe in bypass valves, so thats not a route i'll take.

okay....I will go one step further.... :{D IF the area where your filter is somewhat open to allow snow or ice to pack in there...

Personally I don't have this problem in texas...but on my P-5 that area is really inclosed with all these nice plastic panels....

BUT, if its not....heed Mikes warning...and it would be a thing to keep an eye on......but the cold air alone is NOT going to be a problem.

I know here in Michigan during the winter we get tons of deep puddles and potholes (loaded with salt water from de-icing the roads) all season long. For that reason alone it would make me want to swap it out for the season.
