cheaper higher compression

i was reading an HCI mag on the 75 top tuner tips and they said that the head gasget ( you know the one with three thin metal parts samwhiched together) if you where to take one of those out to make it only two thin metal samwiched parts it would slightly raise your compression. anybody heard of that?? or know if its safe or true?

the compression increase is slight. you could also deck the head.

but hell, the MS high comp pistons are really cheap; as long as you install them yourself.

Yes, it'll raise compression. Yes, I've heard of it. Yes, I agree with eeterp and TheMAN. If you're going to pull the head with intentions of increasing compression, might as well deck the head while its off rather than placing the gasket integrity into jeopardy. While it's at the machine shop getting decked. . . get some head work done.

I would also recommend not reading HCI anymore. I picked up an issue around christmas and it just totally blew chunks. I felt completely jipped!! That rag is just a bunch of poser crap. sorry, just felt like venting on that issue. SCC and Turbo are the ones I truly believe are doing something real. Lots of good info from those two.

I find that SCC has a good content as far as reading goes, what's hot, new products, and some of the editors columns have been very informative... I just get sick of the flavour of the month... the car to be was the SRT-4, before that the MSP, before that the Focus SVT ect. Every month it's something new and they drop the previous like it's plaid! When have you seen an article about the RX-7 RS they were working on, or the MP3...that's been back burnered! and all the miatas...where'd they go, probably the back of the lot as "yesterday's specials"

I find Import Turner to be pretty good as well as SportsCompactCar. And for you Canadians out there try a copy of Performance Auto and Sound. It's Canadian and a lot of the ads and prices are too so we can find stuff for us.

I agree with Edwin. Sport Compact Car is the only magazine I read that's even some-what realistic. Anyone can put $40,000 into a car and make it run 9's. Why pay $5.50 to see that?

Thats too bad, if you had better taste in cars, you would also have better magazines to read.

I thought purple interiors shaved like 2 seconds off of your 1/4 mile? And chrome...isn't that to blind your opponent? And I read somewhere once, that the APC clear tails help you stop faster?
