Change exhaust system?

Change exhaust system?
I am deciding whether to change my exhaust system from adding headers go all the way to the muffler to get a better performance from my car.
If I change that now and I decide later that I want to swap the engine for a bigger engine, would I have to do over the exhaust system again?

depends if you want to go turbo.
2.25 inch piping is good for any NA 4 cylinder. If you plan on going turbo look at 2.5 inch and up. I have 2.5" on my NA protege right now and lost power from my old setup but it going to be supercharged soon so they extra room will be good.

NA means Naturally Aspirated right?
I'm still kinda new to this but I'm learning as I go along.
I may or maynot go turbo, I'm not sure. I wanted to know this because later I may swap the engine for a 2.0. Currently it's a 1.5 and does the 2.25" piping is what, the muffler or the whole pipe that runs from the engine to the muffler?

well it goes
header -> midpipe -> catback -> muffler
the OBX header is 2.25" so that the best u can do on that. Just replacing the muffler wont add any HP you need atleast a catback which includes everything from the midpipe back. The midpipe and header is what has the catalytic converters on it. so switcing those out will lead to emission problems depending on what state your in. For starters I would search for a catback exhaust check protegegarage.com

That's right Phil, we don't have 'em but they are crackin' down on emmissions on vehicles and if you're smokin' well they tell you about it. I haven't seen them checkin' this lately though.
Oh yeah and I am from Trinidad.

My advice to you would be to just get the rear section (muffler) for now. That way, your investment is minimal until you decide what direction you want to take your car. With the 1.5, the performance benefit of doing the whole exhaust system may not be worth the cash outlay, especially if you're saving up for an engine swap.
