Cam Gears

Hey everyone,
I just ordered my set of adjustable cam gears from Tripoint and they will be here in a couple weeks. I will post pictures of them when I receive them.

Yes our cars do have a crank position and a cam position sensor I am using the stock ECU though. The Tripoint Cam Gears are made to work with the stock cam position sensor. The "knodes" stay stationary while the adjustable part moves so that the ECU thinks the timing is the same but we have actually changed it. Tripoint uses these gears in teh World Challenge Protege.

In other words the cams pivot and the gears stay in the same place without moving the outer ring the way Honda aftermarket gears do. They probably move closer in to the center pivot point so the sensor reference doesn't move.

If I remember correctly they allow up to 10 degrees + or - I'm not sure if the 1.6L uses the same gears or not go to the amzda dealer and ask them to cross reference P#'s the cost of them with shipping to NC was 314. Kinda pricey for cam gears but I'm sure they are very high quality. I will let you know how they work out boosted.

how many bolts do the Tri Point cam gears have? I would not want them to slip.

I do not know yet as I ahve not seen them or received them yet I shoudl get them next week shipping from east to west coast is horrible. BUt I'm sure they aren't going to slip they are the same gears used in the World Challenge Protege so if they trust them in their race car I will trust them in my street car.

People use AEm cam gears with 3 bolts for racing, but people on the street have had them slip maybe for improper installation or for not checking them periodically. I would not trust them (AEM). I would want at least 4 bolts. I hope the TriPoint are the same quality as Toda, Jun or Spoon.

That's about what I figured they'd look like. The cam position sensor nubs on the outside ring and the cam can be moved without advancing or retarding the outer ring. The ECU won't even know they are there.
