Callin' FS-ZEers

Has anyone with a FS-ZE motor had a chance to see what the emissions are like on the car?
I ran across an article where the writer stated that most (he said all) 1998 and later cars run the OBD-II ECUs and they have built into the programs the ability to adjust accordingly so as to pass emissions test (major mechanical problems excluded...obviously).
Now the FS-ZE ECU is an OBD-I, and I was wondering just how bad could it be?
I recently had to do my car for it's emissions test and it passed with honors...even with my mods! <---(To the "Fat Cats" who lay down these damn laws...and I repeat )
My car had a 4 parts per 100 (4%) "dangerous emissons"

If you're from California, which I can see you're not, the JDM motor will not pass visual inspection. The tailpipe sniff test will usually pass, but it really depends on the tech performing the test.

Well I have a 2000 Protge with the FS-ZE swapped into it. I live in near the Washington DC and they require emissions testing. I was nervous that it wouldn't pass because people said it wouldn't. Well it did with no problems. It was actually well under the failure mark.
As for it not passing the visual inspection (JDMstuff)...I don't see why it wouldn't...The engine looks exactly like a stock MP3 engine.

If only you could see the look on my wife's face right now... (<--look on wife's face). You've just added fuel to my fire! Thanks for the info... (<--look on my face!)

The reason why it doesn't pass visual is because it is missing some sensors that are required for emissions on US cars.

JDMstuff...the engine throws no codes...emissions are within the limits AND it looks EXACTLY like the MP3 engine w/ the exception of the little black resonator on top of the intake manifold. All the sensors are there and are used. Some are relocated but thats it. I'll send you an e-mail of my engine if you want.

As was stated above, it really does depend on the tester. He/she may not really look too hard at sensors. To prove the point, when I owned my TransAm, (even in emission sensitvie southern California) some testers thought it was a V6 even after close visual inspection.

You can always ask around for 'swap friendly' emission testers as well.
