a/c compressor

i just found out that the bearings in the compressor are going out in my 03 lx. and i just want to know if anyone else has had to get it replaced and how much did they pay for the part cuz this fool at the dealer told me 1232.50+tax. and thats just the part. it seemed a little much but i just wanna know if anyone else has paid that much for it and if they found it cheaper WHERE?!! im on vacation and thats not a good way to end it. so if anyone could help me out id appreciate it.

Comparison point:
I had to replace a condenser on my 99 corolla recently (stone hit it). All in all, about $200 CAD for the condenser (aftermarket), $200 CAD to charge (R134a) and $150 CAD labour. On the Corolla the rad is behind the condenser, so they had to take out the rad, rad support, then the condenser.

No doubt, the OEM parts cost more, but if I were you, I would price the parts and labour separately, then shop the labour at major auto service chains.
