B&M short shifter

I just got the short shifter installed on my P5 today, I didn't do it myself, got a mechanic to do it. Anyways, it works good and all but when I leave the gear in neutral, when I hit the shifter downwards (not hard of course), it makes a very distinct noise. Seems like something on the bottom of the car is loose. But when I put the shifter to gear, it doesn't make that noise anymore. Just wanna know if that's natural or the mechanic screwed up! Thanks!

Two possibilities. One, the mechanic didn't include the rubber O-ring that goes in the assembly (it's hard to put in) and you have enough play in the swivel that you get a pop. Two, he didn't clearance the heat shield under the car and the shifter is hitting it when you tap downward on it.
