Question Automatic transmission - part #/code, max torque capacity (long)

And yes, I did do a serch on this.

I own a 2002 Sand Mica LX with the automatic transmission. I do love it -- and I am amazed how a motor that small can make 130hp on 9:1 compression.

And yes, it's a lot better than the 2000 focus ZX3 that I once owned, which was also an automatic.

The protege obviously has a different engine, which is good, though I was attracted to its similar displacement and power.

I was neve sure however, if the transmission in the protege is the same as the 4F27E 4-speed auto in the Focus. When I was in a ford focus forum I was often told that the 4F27E "was a mazda transmission and that's why it sucked."

That would be bad, given that the aforementioned focus tranny has a "glass jaw" in terms of how much power it can sustain. It is supposed to have a capacity of onlly 270 lb/ft (after the converter, and torque multiplication is about 150%) While 8 or 9 psi of boost has been inflicted on the tranny (over 230lb/ft at the crank, which would make it over the tranny's capacity) and the car runs ok, even trannies with as low as 4 or 5 psi from turbo quickly deteriorated.

I am thinking of turbocharging my protege one day, possibly going to the dealership and having them add the MS turbo setup or getting the T3 kit from Flyin' Protege.

It is terribly frightening to thinik of a transmission failing, especially on, say, a highway on-ramp. If turbocharging would be likely to make the transmission fail, I don't want it....I would prefer motor mods...intake, ignition, pistons, cams, manifold, throttle body (if one is available)......

Opinions? Comments? Information? Links to info?

if you did a search, I don't see why you didn't see the "protege faq" link next to it

protege FAQ says it's not the same trans as the focus, thank god. but what is the protege tranny's torque/hp capacity? It doesn't provide info on that and that's what I'm really trying to find out.

quit peddling your product. either provide info on it here with exactly what it can or can't do or stop posting the same damn image in random old *** threads. there are no prices on your site either. and since most of us aren't tranny rebuilders, this product of yours seems a little pointless. thanks.
