Amount of Heat Generated under Valve Cover?

This may seem like a odd question, but does anyone know how much heat is generated under the valve cover?

I'm getting o-rings for my oilcaps, and the rubber ones are good only till 200f. I can get Viton orings which are good till 400f, or silicon ones to 450f, but if its not needed, i'll stick to the reg.

viton should be good, 400°F is pretty damn hot! i even doubt that it get up to 200°F, since you can still touch the valve cover after running the engine for a while.

If any doubt, get the OEM one. It's only like 2 bucks.
Are we talking about the OEM o-ring?

Because as far as I know the stock oilcap has the oring integrated into the design of the oilcap.

But it's also quite easily removed. Might not be a seperate part though as you're saying.

It *is* a separate part.
True, its press fitted together. But isin't a true O-ring. Its more square, looks like this:

Secondly, its also bigger than the one I'm using. There is a 45 degree chamfer (on the valve cover), which is where the o-ring should sit against, to truely seal tight, so the o-ring i've got are a little smaller, and designed to fit in the slot I've made on the oil caps. The one that is on the stock oilcap sits on the top of the valve cover, not against the chamfer.

I ended up getting Buna A - Nitrile O rings. They are good from -40f - 250f, which should be more than sufficent.

And they are NO where near the costs of $2 (US I'm guessin?). Anyone to buy them at $2 is a idiot.
