99 or 00 owners question

i just found out that my transmission is shot and its gonna cost me $2135.00 to fix it. Does anyone know if our cars came with a drivetrain warranty? I was told that some come with a 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty along with the bumper to bumper warranty. Im hoping that if this is true then i might be able to be reinbursed the money i spent on fixing it. thanks in advance.

The standard factory warranty is a transferrable "bumper to bumper" 3 year/50,000 mile warranty, whichever comes first, from the original date the car was put in service. This would be the extent of the warranty you have unless there is an extended warranty on your car bought from the dealer.

Also parts for the 1.6L Protege are plentiful at junkyards and fairly cheap, get a slightly used tranny instead if your shop doesn't mind you supplying the part.

Check out http://www.car-parts.com

wow!...damn i got the same problem. my tranny is gone too. but gettin it replaced is pretty deep. i looked around for warranties too. they only go up to 50,000 miles or something. thats what i heard. but thats a good idea to go to junk yards and stuff. ill try that. good luck man

actually the 1.6L and the 1.8L do have the same tranny...the f series gearbox..mazda went to the g series with the 2.0L....so actually with your extra power and torque you are more likely to have a tranny problem than us 1.6ers are...

Thumbs down

had the same problem too, with my 99 lx. Was told that the 3 gear was bad and that it cost 2500 for a new one. I just got it rebuild. The web http://www.car-parts.com is the best place.

hmmm tru, i was kinda screwed up...
wasn't thinking straight... i was thinking... f series 1.6, and g series for the 1.8, and there is no such thng as a 2.0 so theres no different tranny for it

mine is an automatic. and now that its fixed, for some reason it just seems slower than it was before. I know its a 1.6 which is already slow but it seems to be slower. it could just be me but i think its the car.
