The simulator should correct the CEL. It is made to modify the signal of the 2nd O2 to read leaner so that the computer thinks the catalyst is working.

Got the flanges and the tubing today. I'll be building another header this weekend and hope to have it off to the ceramic coating place early next week. I'll post pics of it when I get it back and then if you guys are interested I can start making them. Good news is that I got the place making the flanges and the place selling me the mandrel bends to give me a bit of a price break. That means instead of the $499 for satin finish ceramic coat and $525 for the polished look I can probably go $469 satin and $499 polished look. I'm trying to get a couple other parts cheaper as well. Also, I'm going to be using 3/8" flanges. They are laser cut and look great and beefy! No way are these things going to warp.

I've been driving my car around with the prototype for a few weeks now and can definately say I'm having a lot more fun with it. If you moderators would take note, I've sent out some PM's and not gotten a reply yet. Please tell me what you need so I can get authorized to sell these.

I was perusing around the MazdaMotorsports site and noticed that there is a Bosal Header for the 2.0L off an MX6. Will this fit our later model cars, specifically the Pro5?

Quick update. My welder crapped. I'm getting another one later this week and then I'll try again! I decided to get a much better welder. The quality of the welds is something that I'm trying to pay attention to. Will keep this updated as I get this thing finished.

Update APC also makes a header for our cars that is out NOW. Price I've found at my local shop is about 400 bucks. Ceramic coated and I have no idea what design it is. But its out there and I'm assuming since its from APC not many mods if any are needed.

CH,

I just called APC directly and they do not have this available nor do they know when it will be released. Just FYI before to many get excited.

We will update y'all when the good header comes out. We'll be purchasing quite a few of them.

Thanks, Rishie

Thanks for that update Rishie my parts dealer just todl me he coudl get it now i thought that was kinda weird. APC does have a P# for it though in their 2002 catalog. I was planning on the AWR header but too much fab for me I'm jsut going to wait on the OBX stainless one to come out. Better quality than HP Racing and its stainless.

Why? I'm confused on why the OBX one is better quality. Has anyone installed, tested, or dynoed any of these headers. I don't mean this in a rude way. I'm just curious, cause I was planning on the HP. I mean if you got the diameters right and the bends are pretty standardized, is there gonna be really that much difference between brands, other than a name and a price?

I know that OBX is producing two different finishes in the header as well. They are only 30mins from us. I've been on top of them too. However, you'll notice that their 2002 catalogue has tons of dope *** **** including hoods and header/s for tons of applications. Well last year they didn't, so it's obvious that it will take them the rest of this year to actually release a lot of the non-honda products. That's if we're lucky.

FYI, their intakes suck. I would be very careful of the quality of their stuff. WE are a distributor and it works for the budget minded but you always get what you pay for. I can't speak for their header/s but a lot of their other stuff is universal Taiwanese products.

As for a header for the protege/5 the gentleman is correct, HP is the one that I've been referring to for the past year now. I met with them at SEMA last year and discussed this product only to be saddened by the inevitable "back burner" reply for Mazdas. If we were a Honda, **** would have been ready before the cars were released.

In any case, HP should be coming together real soon. That often changes, dates change and so do priorities. I do know that it will have the simulator so it will not throw a check engine, however it is not CARB legal. If they allowed the O2 sensor to plug into the header we would have the certification. I don't give a **** cause I'm leasing and the car will go back to Mazda before I smog.

I'll call them tommorrow and start pushing for definite answers and **** I'll even put the order in. I'm gonna order whatever they got so I can offer you guys a great deal and want to stock as well as distribute their products.

FYI, HP racing fabricated the Toyomoto header for the IS300. Toyomoto received exclusive rights to the product because they were an integral part of the testing procedures as well as the guinea pig vehicle. Otherwise it would be a HP header. That can only speak for their quality.

See ya, Rishie

I'll have a special for you guys on this header so be patient. I'm on the list. The special is just to compensate us for this horrendous wait we've been put through. Soon to change. 3 years from now Mazda should be up to par with Honda in the aftermarket. Especially with Mazdists like myself pushing for production and investing in it as well. CH knows what I mean. ****, it's like you have to fabricate your own stuff when you own a Mazda. hehe.

Materials are the key. What kind of stainless is it? I guess that's a good question aside from the above noted stuff. I'm sure the OBX will be cheaper. I don't care, I just want a header. I won't have it long enough to have problems. hehe.

Somebody just release the damn thing. You'll have like 300 sold in a month at least. That's like $100,000 in sales at least. ****.

Well my solution to this is I'm keeping my stock exhaust manifold. I only have to passs an emissions test like once every 2 years (or sumthin like that here in Oregon). And I think I can handle the swap once every two years. I'll just slap that stock bitch on when I gotta do emissions tests, and then and soon as I drive off and get home, I'll slap that HP header back on. I mean I've looked at the exhaust manifold, and installed my Bosal catback. It doesn't look like too much more than just a few bolts to install.

I think that most of us dont care about the smog legal stuff, as many places have no regulations. Others can swap it out every couple of years when they need to. Those that worry about the smog legalities are going to have to be stuck with travellers header.
I think the rest of us just really care about the CEL light.

The biggest I care about is..

I WANT IT NOW!!! NO MORE EXCUSES... NOW!!!

The OBX headers are made from either 16 gauge ceramic coated mild steel or 304 Stainless. Yes it is the lower grade of stainless but more than ample to handle a NA application. Oh yeah Rishie hit me up and let me know how much you may be able to get that header for and I will go ahead and put in an order with you for it so maybe things can start rolling some more with HP.
