2.0 Tranny Swap

Anyone know how practical this manuver would be? I hear that it's a pain in the butt. I've located possible target trannys and I have a pit-crew to help me. (Father, Brother, Uncle, and about $200 worth of beer) Im really bored with this crap automatic, I want to add new headers, high-flow cat, injen CAI and cat-back from protegegarage.com, but all that with an automatic? What a waste.

labor-wise it's not TOO difficult, but it's going to cost out the butt. Why not just buy a nice turbo kit and be done witht it?

Also, just for giggles you could get a ZEX dry nitroud kit and jet it for a 50hp shot....it would really surprise whoever lines up next to you.

Ahh yes but the big N makes me scared. First, I'm from Maine so everything is already confusing and scary. Second- I drive boats for a living. Third, Ill probibly puncture the bottle trying to mount it.. this causes a spark... the spark causes a small nuclear blast... blast, the concequencive blast burns my face into a melty drool.

Or it goes well and I rape all the posers that live in Connecticut and Maine.

As for the turbo --- I'll probibly overboost... the there will be a loud whine and following that? Oh, the spectacular sight of my pistons making it into orbit.

Or it goes well....

On another note - header wrap. How good is this stuff? Do you recommend it? I don't like having a flaming hot hood, let alone hot air intake or hot anything for that matter. Thanks Primo

I have been told header wrap on a SS header is a bad idea due to the fact it doesn't let enough heat to escape. This causes extreme temperatures on your manifold and can cause cracking or failure.

That automatic won't hold up to high power...they are WEAK...however a swap would NOT be cost effective...easier and less expensive to trade for a manual Protege..the header wrap, not really a good idea...they can keep under hood temperatures down, however that header is MUCH more likely to crack, escpecially at the welds under that hight heat, since it will have no where to go...3rd...nitrous on its own is not flammable..nitrous is a catalyst....combined with gasoline, big boom...however on its own if you puncture your tank, you woud more likely get frostbite on your face from the super cold blast(nitrous gets super cold as it exits the tank)...3rd, over boosting?? maybe if you lock up your wastegate...turbo's are hardly that unreliable, unless you do a really poorly designed kit and bad install...

you need more than just the tranny you'd need the whole car for parts....you'll need the pedal set, guage cluster with tach, all cables, etc....it's going to get costly.

turbo's spike a LOT more than superchargers!! everyone I know that has a turbo car with a MBC or EBC on it have boost creep or spikes. Thats another advantage of a supercharger over turbo!

plus ECU & Wiring Harness......if you have a whole parts car like Matty said, but still how much will you pay for a parts car with all that intact...$4000-$5000??? Trading in your current Pro for a manual would come out cheaper, and you wouldnt have the whole hassle of a swap to begin with....

Nitrous was fun..i ran it for a short while at a 50shot..The bottle is hard to punture...the worry is if you drop the bottle with the neck down.

The only reason why i dumped the nitrous was cost to refill bottle constantly!

Chas

P.S. Why not trade for a mazdaspeed?

you'd have to refill the bottle at least 100 times to equal the cost of a small turbo kit.

My 10lb bottle lasted me 2 weeks racing on the weekends 10-15 passes a night. Thats over 2 years of racing for the cost of a turbo kit.
