started my strut swap

Well i now have the h&r springs and KYB struts on the rear of the car... the first one was really hard cause well i had no idea what i was doing the second one took maybe an hour to do.... unfortunately i bled the breaks cause i had to remove the break cable and it took forever to get breaking power again.... they ride nice... i can't wait to do the fronts... will the fronts be a lot harder than the rears?

Fronts should be easiers than rear, because you have more room to work with. I can only imagine your pain getting rear ones off, and unscrewing the bolts from the inside, then get them aligned back in there. It is definately a pain in the ***, but you have to do, what you have to do.

Pain in the ***.. lol ...

2nd Gen suspension is the easiest suspension to work on ,, out of all the protege's ...

To remove the brake lines , you will need
1. A flat heat screw driver ...
2. A Hammer or malet hammer

Just put the hammer on the Clip and then hit it once or twice and the clip will come out and the brake line can be pulled out...
Same with front or rear..

Loosen the bolts .. and then pull the strut out ...
It's pretty simple ...
Look at this page for info on the front and rear...

the clip was easy to remove i just grabbed it with a wrench of somekind and pulled it out no problem.... the bolts where the hard part, about killed myself pulling those off... but everthing i put on i used anti-sieze first so if i have to do anything again... it will be easier

Get a bigger pipe , slightly bigger than the socket wrench , sometimes the end of the jack pipe will work and put it over the wrench and then pop the nut ....

soooo easy

I can't believe a shop charges $400 to do this. RIP-OFF!!!!!!! I did all 4 struts in a collective time of less than 4 hours and with no experience at this..... the front struts i just did today finally and they were tons easier than the back.... all you do is remove the wheel.... then remove the clip for the break line and move the break line out of the way which is easy since its a hose... losen the midle bolt on top of the strut so when you pull the strut and compress it you can finish removign it easily.... then remove the three bolts that hold the strut mount into place.... then work on the two bolts holding the strut to the suspension and axle (might be difficult but if i can do it anyone can)... now simply lower the strut down and move things around so you can pull it out..... now compress the springs and take the mount off the top... move all the boots and such from old struts to new ones then compress the new springs (if you are putting new ones on) unless you are keeping the old springs then just move the springs onto the new struts and put the mount on and decompress the springs and put everythign back on.... easy to do.... going out for a drive after luch.... HUNGRY

are the KYB's adjustable? can you make them stiff? cause my B+G's are soft, and my 205/50/16's are rubbing on my fenders... on stock struts..

Hey i see that u didn't change your struts, and dropped your car i was planning on using my stock struts till i can get some cash to buy some good struts.
I also see u want to change the shocks but how long did your stock ones last??? How many kms??? is it worth it for me to install springs without changing the shocks???

the B+G's are a soft spring.. so i need a stiffer strut cause the stock struts are soft too.. too much bounce.. i should of had the KYB's when i installed the springs.. If you not going as low as i did.. the stocks should last a little while, before you have to get new ones.. i'll have pix of my car today.. then you'll see why they rub the tires.. there's not even an inch clearance in the back tire...
