Hey, you are doing the same thing I am goint to. I am going to get H&R this summer, and I though of getting KYB GR-2s, but then I found out that KYB AGX (adjustables) came out, and those struts are better off for your car, because GR-2s are close to OEM ones. I do not know how much AGXs cost, but GR-2 are pretty affordable.

so are the gr-2's any good? or are the adjustable ones the better choice? and are those two the only "performance" ones?

The GR-2s are decent. I have asked numerous people around here who have them and they did not complained. They said that its almost like stock, but slightly stiffer. As for performance struts, I only know of KYB-AGX and Mazdaspeed. Depending on the price, I would choose AGX, because if you replace the stock spring with a shorter one, you have to understand that the stock strut will only move accordingly to the stock spring, so the adjustables struts with lowered springs lessen the chance of having a spring pop out, or some other suspension related problem. That's what my boss told me at work (Speedy's).

I am sorry if I have probably confused some of you guys. AGX came out as a product, I do not know if there is a specific 2nd Gen Pro application, though I am sure it is only a matter of time. I read in the latest Super Street issue that they are out. There was a website next to the article (I do not have the issue in front of me), and I will post it as soon as I get home. I also could have read wrong, as almost all of the issue was dedicated to the aftermarket products for the WRX, and the AGX were for WRX, but just contacted KYB and asked them. Will post as soon as I hear from them.

they don't make them for the protege, if they have them for the escort or 1st gen protege, then you stand a chance of them fitting ...

as far as I know , I have the gr-2's in a box in my shed ,, when I had them on they were cool , slightly stiffer than stock , and work great with lowering springs, don't use them with coilovers though ,, else you will regret it ...

I have the mazdaspeeds right now and on 1 they are great for round town cruising and carrying people . I usually don't carry more than 3 people in my car , and if feals like there is only me in the car with the struts on 1 or 2 ...
they are approx. 700 bucks , but you know what they are worth it ..

Thanks, for clearing up, Bruce. I guess GR-2s are the ones I am going to get. Mazdaspeed's are definately nice, but I cannot afford them. So, hopefully, AGX can come out soon enough. Sorry if I confused some of you guys.

Well yet agin NOPI is out of the parts i want, they don't have any struts so my order got cancelled. I stopped in at murrays today to see what they have and they only have monroe sense trac struts which have a lifetime warranty, i might get those since there is a lifetime garuntee, does anyknow know if monroe will be any good?

i think that monroe is a waste of money , my opinion , I think you can get the kyb's somewhere else, try some of your local parts places that carry kyb's, they should be able to call the company up and have them sent in ....
