problem with 95 mazda protege

I just changed the antifreeze on my car. I drained it and refilled it. but when I start my car the check engine light comes on and the car startles for a while. Also when i'm driving the car doesn't shift that good it takes about 5,000 rpms to change gears. I don't know what the problem is. Any solutions?thanx.

well...first I drained the old antifreeze in the engine, and then I washed it out with water. Then I plugged the drain and started pouring in the antifreeze. I just bought the car and did the tune up. It hadn't been changed for about 75,000 miles. It's been doing this for four days now. If there are air pockets in it, then how do I fix it? thanx

holy crap

you mean to tell me that you took out the antifreeze, and then rinsed out the system , and then put more anit freeze in there AND DID NOT BLEED THE SYSTEM.....
man you have to take the radiator cap off and let the car run for a while until you see the bubles come up , or you will warp your cylinder head ,......
make sure the heater and blower is off and no reving ,,
man get a protege manual also ,, that thing is the bible
