engine problems

ok this is the problem im having..1. my engine is knocking, and i had a hose in my radiator, 2 the front end of the car was jacked up but im over that..so i take off the valve cover..and the is like jelly or real thick on the inside and i guess oil shoots up through some holes in the bottom.. but i move the oil on the lifters or springs and it is liked coated or caked on there , is the reason why my engine is knocking..cause everything else looks fine.. i took off the oil pan and everything was in order..so can i get some help or advice..thank you.. and one more thing is it bad that it is an automatic, i mean i can still hook it up right..thank you..john

you can hook up any car that you want to hook , just takes time and effort and patience, .. as for the engine , it is hard to tell what you are talking about ,. you would have to take some really crisp pics with you digi cam and show us
