Weird rattle

I'm trying to figure out where a rattle is coming from on my 91 DX. I've checked the front liscense plate and exhaust heat shield. Both were tight. It only happens when I'm first starting or shifting. It doesn't do it when the engine picks up the rpms. Is there another shield there I should know about? I haven't jacked the car up yet.

Might be the heat shield on your catalytic converter, or the converter itself. Mine was rattling pretty bad so I cut the thing clear off.... That fixed it!

I had that same problem too. Ripped that heat shield from the cat and have not had the problem since.

If I do find out it's the heat shield for the cat and I take it off, it's not going to fry anything is it?

Cool, I'll have to check it out when I get the chance.

really weird

I put the CAI on my car and the rattle pretty much disappeared. I had to strain to hear it. BTW, I'm very glad I got that kit.

It will fall off eventually...

If you do not remove the converter heat shield it will remove itself. Mine did.

No detrimental effects.
