Take care of it and it should last and last and...well, you know...

My rear bumper was smacked on the side once and started leaking water into the same area...ended up removin the plastic plug as a temp fix. haven't looked into it since...

I have that same problem.....

I might try tightening the locking thing of the trunk......I forget the word for it............see if that would help.............
this might be a problem for the first gen proteges like the seatbelt light and such..........

Let me add my '90 LX to the leakers. I've had a problem since I had the rear window replaced. I can't park facing downhill or I get water in the trunk. I found my jack-well full of water and the jack rusting, so I also removed the plug, and I don't store anything but the jack in there anymore (I used to have rope and rags there, as well as the factory lug wrench). No problem since and the plug hole is small enough that nothing has crawled in (yet).

Well at least I know I'm not alone. My '91 DX leaks as well. I usually have about an inch of water where my jack is. Thanks for the suggestions though. Maybe all of us together can figure out WHERE THE HECK THIS WATER IS COMING FROM!!

HAHAHA!!!! My Protege has the same problem. It has just started in the past few month. I cannot figure out for the life of me where it is coming from....but if someone finds out..post the fix. I'll do the same if I can find the culprit.

1988-1995 Pontiac Grand Prix have the same problem with leaking trunks, what me and my friend did to find the leak on my other car was i got in the trunk with a flashlight while he let a steady stream of water flow over the trunk to find it. Come to find out it was the taillights. So try doing that.

(also make sure its a really really good friend, so they dont leave you in the trunk if your rear seats dont fold down.

OK PPL, now this is a FACTORY DEFECT. happens to all 1st gen proteges. some where the seal is bad, if you want/have time. take a hose and just start spraying around in spots under your car and on your trunk lid. find out where the leak is then caulk it. but make sure u test each spot out (before u find the leak) and check the leak spot when u test that area, before u test another area.

I hope you all under stand that. if not, msg me on aim or e-mail me and ill explain it a little better.

I am in

My pro trunk also leaks. Add me to the list. I don't get it in the jack compartments, but around the spare in the bottom. My spare tire has a permanent rust stain where the water sits and then drys out.
