Unhappy Something's Busted...

Hey everyone. I recently discovered tar like goop all over the inside of my rims. I'm pretty sure it's a torn boot of some kind.. i don't really know what i'm talking about, but it's on both sides of the car in the front only. I'm sure you guys know what the problem is, how much $$ to get it fixed?
And i also thought i'd tell y'all about a good deal i'm gonna get on dent repair... I have a pretty dented up drivers side rear quarter panel, a dent on the hood, a dent on the trunk, and various door dings... I got a quote at a paintless dent repair place at $325 to fix them ALL and do a little paint touching up! Seems like a good deal to me!
Despite all these dings (which are not too noticable), I have a damn good looking car! I honestly think it's the best looking (non body kit) 1st gen i've ever seen! I wish i could post pictures! (no digital camera yet)

Is the gunk in your wheels really like tar, as in gets really hard when cool? The it might just be tar picked up from driving through construction or something. But if the stuff is a thick grease, then it sounds like ya got a pair of cracked CV boots, a common problem for the G1's, something you should get fixed before your start to hear the clunking of worn CV joints. Your thing says you're from WA, if so you should head to corksport, www.corksport.com in Portland, OR. Or just give them a call and get a quote, unless you have a local mechanic that you know wont rip you off. Corksport is also holding a barbeque on Aug. 31, you should come down for it cauze a ton of mazda owners will be there, including me. Then well see if your "best looking (non body kit) 1st gen i've ever seen" can win the Show and Shine against mine

yes, ur CV boot on ur axle busted. The tar or Grease should also be all around ur wheel wells. you will start to hear a clickin from ur axle when u turn corners hard and sharply.

Go get the Boot Replaced ASAP, if u still have OEM axle. get the whole thing replaced. Labor charge wont be any more than jus gettin the boot replaced.

Jus a tip. I replaced both of my axles. becasue of this same problem.

same thing happened to me! the messed up part about it was that i had just replaced the axles, and 2 weeks later, the damn left boot ripped again! good thing it was under warranty.

damn, damn, damn! today i go out to my car and notice my left front rim looked a little weird. i took a closer look and the damn CV boot had busted and spewed all over my damn wheel well. i guess i jinxed myself by posting about how it had happened to me before. now i gotta see if it's still under warranty!

you might be drivin ur car too harsh around corners and over bumps. thats how i broke both my boots and had to get them replaced.(axles)

take it a bit easier...or u might be hitting something or something is rubbing against the boot making it crack/tear/break.

actually the last time my CV boot busted was over 2 years ago. it was just weird how i had brought it up, and then it happened. the roads out here in new orleans don't help out either; they're AWFUL!!!! when i drive to school, it's like i'm going off roading with all the damn bumps and potholes.
