replacement muffler

hi all,
ever since i bought my pro back in Feb. the muffler that is on there has been split right down the middle and is very loud. my buddy who races porsche 944's says he likes it cause it sounds a lot like his 944, but i'm not a fan of it. I want to find something that well be quiet but still sound powerful, and i don't want one of those ,as we say on my camaro board, fart cans with a 4in tip. are there any stock replacements that sound good, and are under $100. I've looked at some of the ZX2 stuff, but those are little out of my price range. thanks for the help in advance guys.

haha ,, my muffler has a 4.5" tip and sounds awesome as hell .. With 1st gens , I always thought DTM's looked nice ,,.. There really are not any "stock" mufflers that will sound nice. And for a 100 bucks you better take your search to ebay ,.. there are tuns of mufflers on there

i tell ya, if ya want to go for a stock replacement, go with that, and then get ya a nice polished tip.

Then take an hour or so, and gut your catalytic converter, that will give ya a nice sound.

A buddy of mine did that with his pro, and it sounds very good.

just a thought....

If you want it quiet and a stock replacement grab an LX muffler with the dual tip. It does not sound like an aftermarket muffler but it is nice and quite and will probably sound a bit better then your current DX muffler.

Ha!... that was the exact same muffler I was looking at on eBay. Tell me how it works out for you, what it sounds like, when you get it hooked up. I may be looking to get the same muffler from that guy.

I bought that exact same muffler a couple months ago. Turned out pretty nice! Has a deep tone except it turned out louder than I expected, but not near as loud and annoying as when I had glass packs on. (Don't ask me why I put glass packs on, I hated it.) I had my resonator removed a long time ago since it had a leak in it anyhow, and Im sure that makes it louder. (I plan to get a new resonator soon though!) I had my sister drive it down the street so I could get a better idea of how it sounded and it wasn't too bad, still louder than I had expected though. Here is a pic of the muffler installed:

Thanks, man!
It looks pretty sharp, still... I not sure how loud I want it to be, but I suppose it doesn't matter... It can't be louder than my truck, though. But I like the deep low growl of the truck, and NOT the high pitched whine that you hear on hondas or other like cars. Thus, I'm looking for a deep, low toned sounding muffler.

i think the compression ration of the engine makes the sound. low compression = deep sound, high compression = high pitched sound. v8 engines on trucks have deep sound cuz the compression is not near inline 4's.

I'm running a Focuz oval tip muffler on my 91 LX along with a 2.25 inch cat back, with a cherry bomb for a resonator and a hollowed out cat converter and it's got a nice growl at low rpm's and I was told my a friend that owns a Ferrari 308 GT that my pro sounds like his car at WOT. Even though it sounds nice, I'll be switching to my recently accuired Remus DTM muffler for a more "stock" sound.
