My radiator seems to be cracked and I will need to replace it really soon, so I thought I'd ask you guys as to what brand I should look into...........
are there any high performance radiators out there for a Pro??

also, I know of www.radiators.com, but are there any other places that I should check out that sell radiators....

oh yeah.........and is there anything else I should replace while I am at it, except the lower and upper hose (already did).......

OK, this is too weird. I'm guessing someone changed the time on the website, because this is the second time I've seen a response posted before the original message. And the time is still two hours off for me (says it's 10:02pm right now, which it is in Chicago).

And that happens when you read too fast and write before thinking. Common mistake on the internet.

 

I'd go with Radiators.com. I just put mine in about a week ago and haven't had any problems. The entire radiator, tanks and all are metal and with shipping it was only $138.00. They did have to call me to see if my core was 5/8" thick or 1" thick. I am assuming this is because I have the DOHC. I was surprised that option wasn't there on the site.

But it is a really easy install, took less than 2 hours. Had no problems then, and none now.

I am assuming that the core on a DOHC engine is 1" thick....am I right ???

 

i replaced mine about 2 years ago with a 91 auto tranny rad in my 90 5sp. IIRC too, the auto tranny rad is all metal. It also has a bit more cooling potential. Only difference is the now unused sensor plug on the top and the small I/O hoses on the bottom.

 

so would I be better off getting a radiator for an auto, because my car is manual ?
it's sounds like it's better.............are all of the radiators for manual trannies plastic ?

 

So, I apparently have a auto radiator in my 5-spd. Must have been replaced when they fixed the front end damage (someone backed into me years ago trying to get away from an accident).

 

I simply got the auto tranny rad cause it was the one they had but yes, it's a bit better.

I really have no idea if all 5sp rads where plastic or not, it may have changed throughout the years. but there is no use in trying to fix it, as i tried, all i got was a poorer and an eyesore of a rad.

IIRC i paid $50 and it droped right in. Remember to plug the small lower hoses, even though i think it's a separate chamber...Only thing i noticed is that the passenger side sits a bit lower in the upper mount bushing than the drivers side. Still holds it there and it's never come out, but just an observation. Yes i checked all brackets to make sure nothing was bent

Yeah. DOHC core is 1" thick. And metal is by far better. The lower part of the core is for flowing of the transmission fluid on automatics. So if you have a manual, you most likely will have a different type of deal going on. But mine came with plugs already there, and whereever I wanted to hook up a hose, I simply took out the plug. And beleive me, they were in there tight.
