newbie questions

Hey guys,

I'm not an owner yet, but I'm looking for a starter car my cousin. What kind of stuff do I need to lookout for on a 1st gen? I see most of you have LX's so I guess those are the ones to have. Any weak points or oddities ( like SE-R's have 5th gear pop out ).

How cost effective are mods? anything/anyone to avoid??

Thanks
Blair

first generation Proteges are very reliable and could last a lifetime......
there is a lot of aftermarket **** as well so if you are willing to put in some cash you can make that baby go really fast and look really good ??

The LX is the best model to go for as it has more horsepower (125) and has power windows/locks, DOHC motor, better seats, good looking stock rims and so on........

What plans do you have for the car if you eventually get it ???

oh and last, but definitely not least.....welcome to the club

I was looking for a NX back when i was searching for a car. What have you done to it? Any pics? I know a couple ppl on my campus with some hooked up NX's..which is pretty rare since there aren't that many around to begin with.
Seatbelts are no big deal as they would be replaced with Sabelts. I have 2 NXs ( NXi??) one is my daily driver with just Apex springs ( the only set in the US that I know of), wheels and a JWT intake. The other is my racer, former SCCA showroom stock car. I've been developing it for the last few years. Yes NX2000's are rare there were only approx 4300 imported from 91-93.

The Protege would be for my little cousin who's just getting started and I've always respected the car for it's fun factor and affordability. I'm looking at those, SE-R's, and Corolla's for him
( no Civics!!! ). Gotta be a twin cam!!!!

I could argue this one if I knew more about your motors, but I don't yet. However I look forward to learning. But let's not start out on this foot. Let's band together against the Hondas!! ;-)
