New Member! Need Help! :D

First off, I'm new here. An hour ago I just purchased a '91 323 SE 5-speed. Fun little car!

Anyway, a buddy of mine said that I could replace the gauge cluster with one that had a stock tach. What is required to do this? How much will it cost?

Welcome!

Your friend was probably talking about a cluster from a Protege LX that has a stock tach.
I am pretty sure that this has been covered before on the board so do a search for additional info on how exactly this is done.

Searching the forum will most likely provide you with any additional info you might want to look at as a lot of things have been covered here ..........over and over again........

any plans for the new car?

Damn dude, you win the award for hospitality and helpfullness. Thanks alot!

I previously owned an extremely clean '93 MR2 Turbo and an '83 Toyota Camry. I sold the MR2 because I didn't enjoy paying $300 for insurance and I needed more money for school. It was my weekend car anyway, as I used the Camry for my daily commute. After I sold the MR2 I went out and bought a 2002 Yamaha R6 sportbike to satisfy my taste for speed. My buddy has a '91 323 that he's hooked up and I really like it, so I'm going to do the same. I'm selling the Camry and the 323 will be my new commuter.

Here's my planned mod list in order:

*Gauge swap with tach if it's easy enough...
1) Lower it, probably with GC Coilovers.
2) Get some rims, not sure which yet.
3) Some type of clean body kit, probably just JDM bumpers.
4) Paint job.
5) Engine swap, probably a BPT.

What do you think?

The GTR bumper does look very nice on the 323's. As for the BPT. what's the mileage on your car? You can just add a turbo instead of swapping the motor if that's what you prefer. A Turbo kit was recently made for the BP motor. For additional info on the turbo kit you can visit www.barelylegaltransplants.com

Other than that, sounds like you got a project vehicle in the making. Make sure you keep us posted on how every mod goes and whenever you need help do a search. If that doesn't yield results then there are a lot of very knowledgable people on this board that will be more than willing to help you!

The 323s don't have the BP, they have the B6 engine, which can also be turboed. The BPT is a great choice, but it's expensive to implement if you want to do it right. You need a lot of parts from the Pro LX. The complete list of what you'll need is on that site in the post above me. potentially a lot of money, but it would be fast as ish!

I checked out that site, pretty sweet! I spoke with a guy that can get me the complete BPT engine for $1000. I thought that was a pretty good price. I dunno if that includes the ECU and stuff, but I'm thinking it does.

Another mod I forgot was a short shift kit, which one do you guys recommend?

B&M and Pacesetter make short shifters for the Protege and as far as I know they will work for the 323 as well but don't quote me on that. The Pacesetter is adjustable, but most people don't like Pacesetter. I don't have any experience with either of the two products so I can't tell you, which is better. If it was me, I'd probably go with B&M, because what you get is what you pay for and Pacesetter is rather cheap

B&M, that's what I was thinking.

Hey those 323's with the BPT's in em, what are their 1/4 mile times?
