New engine?

OK, I am pretty sure its time for a new engine. I have a 190,000 k on mine and its smoking when i acc. hard. What is the difference between a pro and a pro gtx engine? Would the gtx fit in my '91 pro? I have a 1.8L DOC right now.

the Familia (Protege) GTX was never available in the states...that's why the GTX engine has to be imported from Japan, Australia, etc. It is a TURBO version of the 1.8 DOHC in your car, making 180hp.
www.barelylegaltransplants.com is one of the sources for the engine. another option is to find a used 1.8 DOHC and turbo it later with a kit from 'barelylegal'.
take a look in the '1st Gen Engine/Drivetrain' AND 'Forced Induction' section as there are A LOT of threads about all the possibilities.
