My teeth are shaking.....
Hi,
My protege is a 94 SOHC w/102k....
The problem I'm having is that this engine vibrates when engaged into drive; or when the A/C is on.
I changed the wires, rotor, cap and spark plugs. Everything is in the correct order and works great.
The motor mount is almost new, so no need to replace it.
Do you think the timing belt is bad, or does my car idle too low?
thanks!!

I had this same problem recently, car was shaking very badly, and lots of noise.
I fixed 90% of my problem though, and it might not be what you think it is.
I had the same exact symptoms, but after searching and searching for the cause of these problems I found this...
My hood cushions were worn! I was still in doubt that it could cause that much vibration and noise, but I bought some small rubber O-rings and placed them under the 2 little Black cusions and after getting the cushions back in the little holes and closing my hood. I noticed my car made almost no Noise and reduced the vibrations by at least 60%.
Try this, let me know how it works.

Ambassador, I have a thread I would like to refer you to. It was started by username PlutoPeopz and the subject title is, accordingly, called Bad Vibes. You will see the comments I made. It has a very sad ending to Proteges that develop that vibration problem. I don't think the vibration problem that the guy has who solved it with the hood cushions is the same one you and I had. It has nothing to do with the engine. I suspect it's some electrical problem or something else.
