My Protege Was The Worst Car I Ever Bought!!!!!!!!!!

All it does it tear up. Right after i fix something, something else tears up on it!!! Now when you floor it and let off the gas it dies, or almost dies and all the dashlights come on? So now what could be wrong with it??????????

You talking about flooring it sounds like you're beating the shiznat out of the poor thing. On the other hand, what you're talking about could be a common problem that may be easily remedied. I've known of a few 1st gens having their "coolant sensors" go bad on them. The sensor doesn't show that its bad by the temp gauge, instead it shows by making your car die when you let off the gas. This happened to me. My advice, have a mechanic figure out which sensor (theres a few of them) is bad and replace it. Also check your idle, mine was a little bit low when I did this. Good luck and keep the faith, Pros ain't that bad.

Replace the coolant temp sensor and O2 sensor. O2 sensor is $22 at Autozone, temp sensor is $23-$30 at dealer. If you have any problems after that, check the coil.

yes since we bought it last month, we have been taken very good care of it. The owner before didn't though, you could tell by the way the car was all scratched and dented.

I bought my Pro almost 2 years ago with about 64,000 miles on it. The first time I checked out and did basic maintenance on it I could tell the previous owner hadn't taken care of it. It still had the factory air cleaner with about a 1/4" thick layer of black scuzz on it. Eeeeuuuw!!! Even after the previous owner's abuse, my Pros going strong at 107,000 miles.

You might also want to check your air tube between your MAF and throttle body. If there is the littlest crack in it, your engine will die.
