Losing interest in my car :(

well guys/gurls..I am totally losing interest in my 1993 protege. It just doesnt look the same to me as it did before. I'm thinking bout joining a few of my friends and pickin up a jetta or golf. I need some inspiration desperately before i get rid of my car for good. I just replaced the clutch..my synchro is on its way out, theirs several patches of rust bubbles poppin up , the cv joints are gone i think..i mean i dont even want to put that money back into it. And as far as "suping" it up, for the cost of rims and a paintjob (about 3000 cdn) plus my savings.. i can buy another car outwrite. HELP!!!
anyways thanks for your time in reading this story!

so you want to go german?

Let me tell you my story:

about 3 weeks ago, I slammed my protege into the back of a subaru forrester, going about 25 up a hill. Tore her up. for a few days, I was like, "WTF, screw it, I'll just get something else, a toyota or something." Well, she's sitting outside right now, still tore up, but I am slowly getting her back together. that is the best running car I've ever driven, and I've driven a few golf's, and jetta's in my days. get ya turbocharged pro, with a few tweaks....and then you will say, What the hell is a golf?

I love my car, and I too was losing interest, but I tell ya, nothing is better than working on a car, and saying to your buddies "Hey, I fixed her up, doesn't she look nice?"

Why do you want to be like everyone else, driving a jetta, or a civic, or something like that, when you've got a car that no one thinks is anything, but you, YOU've appreciated her for so long, why does it matter what anyone else thinks? I've had my car for 2 years now, and I still love her to death. once I get her fixed up, and running good, looking good, paint job, I plan on keeping her until its neccesary to get rid of her, which will not be anytime soon, seeing as what I am going to school for will hopefully yield me some nice money (Forensic Science)

Just to let you know, not all hope is lost, and we do care. just do what YOU want. not what everyone else wants......

If you think she's worth it, then go for it, if not, sell her to someone who will appreciate her.

My .02 Cents.

here here!

Blending with the crowd is easy to do, but standing out makes you who you are.

Do what makes you happy, just sad to lose a 1st gen pro owner.

Just my thoughts.

If your car had no potential I would get whatever will make you feel loved by the rest of the world, but the thing is..... your car has potential you and most of the world dont seem to know about.

Is your car SOHC? Get a cheap BP engine, turbo it, get the LX tranny... New cv joints... and then worry about your rust spots

I know how you feel, though. I get discouraged sometimes with my car, but I usually end up riding it out. Some days I say screw it, sell both cars and get one nice car, and forget about modding. But we all know how that goes

ya ..i see what you guys are sayin, its just hard to get into the car all the time knowing how people feel about the way the car looks. I am obviously a simple guy who falls short of recognizing the potential of the first gen protege. Like one of you said, i'll just ride it out for a month or so and see what hits me. Thanks for all your inputs, it was really appreciated.

if you care what people think, go buy a honda civic, if you don't care, then oh well. Do what you think is best for you

well, sometimes it is time to get out with the old and in with the new. the car would be like you're ol' lady, it's startin to show some age, and soon, you're gonna have to put her in the old folks home... err.. the junkyard for your car. unfortuneatley, while you can't trade your ol' bag in for a younger one, you can your car anyway. it's tough, i mean... everybody think back to the reason you got your protege. i know wil's story, i hear people say that they handle the best out of this and that and what not, but for some like me, it was their first real car. i mean, i love my protege... i'm kinda stuck with her financially, so i came here to find what i wanted to know, something, anything to fix up my car for the time being. i've learned more about engines, body work, sound systems, diagnostics, repair, and replacement in the 20 months i've had this baby then i ever knew about cars before. doesn't sound like your car is entirely ready for the junkyard, but if what you need is a newer car to say something about yourself, then do it. **** the mazda loyalty, you want a golf or a jetta, get it. unlike mazda's, jetta clutches and trannys are almost impossible to break on purpose. i mean face the reality, your car is 11 years old just about? you'd never see the money back you're talking about putting into this car... but then again, thats the law to depreciation for any car (with few exceptions). i mean, it's a vicious cycle that you unfortunatley have to endure, when you get a car, it's not going to last forever, no matter how much you invest into it. my stand point is neutral and i give you both sides of the story, while performance wise it's a healthy option compared to other imports and the price you'll spend for one of them in equal condition as a protege could be a little bit higher. if you're not a gearhead, don't even bother doing an engine swap.. cause look at it this way, unless you know what you're doing or are willing to learn, you're going to have to keep up maintenance on your modifications. most people in here make it sound like, you spend the 3 or 4 grand on the right parts, throw the engine in with some custom mods, and you can instantly forget about it, no money needed to be spent, no nothing. the reality is most of the people that are brave enough to swap in another engine are severely dedicated (to what i would say a very noble cause) to making their protege the meanest ****** imports on the street... they're a rare breed... they're never satisfied man, they always look for someway to better what they have. a car says alot about who you are after a while, it becomes an extension of you, and if you feel that disconnection, that longing feeling that you're driving a piece of ****, find something else to drive. i know honda fans, they have nice cars, but there's nothing they can throw on their car that several thousand already hasn't. have fun, hate to see you dish your pro if thats your final thought, but hey dude, you gotta do what you gotta do.
peace

i figure i'm gunna paint the car a viper blue with silver pearl, put sum white rims on and call it a day. I can always keep the rims for my next car so that isnt too big a deal. I am also stuck with it financially, until i am out of college in a year. So thats the deal... and thanks for all your support. You guys have re-opened my eyes and made me realize a few things. Where would I be without this forum and its helpful inhabitants!? SCREWED, thats where.

you think u got it bad?

Ive had my scort for 8 months. first car.

On the second engine, 3rd tranny and my cars is still worth under 1000! Ive dumped over 3 grand into the thing and it still doesnt run.......but when it does, it really makes a name for itself. How many 1000 cars do you know of that perform like mazda bp based cars do? 1000 4 cylinder keeping up with civic SIs that cost easily 10 times more! Remember, if you want to go fast for cheap, keep the protege. If you want to be cool for tons of $ and then go fast buy a honda or vw.

(unless you get a really really good deal on a vw or honda)

for the 12+ years i had my protege i have realized that this car actually appreciates repairs and maintenence i put into it. my car has never been in a shop for a mechanical problem. the only time i had it in a shop was to install exhaust on it and change tires and alignment/wheel balancing. but those things i cant do myself anyway. with the help of a good friend we toghether have done everything else and it is worth the time and money spent on parts cuz all i have to think is that i would have wasted alot more money if i had to take it to the shop for every little thing. honestly speaking i am kinda getting bored with this car but because of the reliability of a mazda my next one will be a protege too. a Protege5 (if you didnt catch my handle name). i have read ratings and reviews on the new proteges and they arent the highest rated cars out there but because I had a mazda for so long I realized that these are very durable and reliable cars. and like someone said that proteges are not flashy and stuff but i would rather have something thats a little on the low profile then aq car that is everywhere you look like hondas and stuff. age is something that you cant reverse but you have to make a decision when you gonna give up on your car. Im now saving up money so i can have a new protege but untill then i will keep driving this car cuz i know i can depend on it. oh one more thing. i have been on numerous long trips with my car to california (2 times) and canda (10 times+) and i always had confidence that i will get there without any problems and i did!!!. Stay with a mazda!

I agree I love my pro

back in 93 my dad bought a brand new 94 proto lx the aqua colered one, and he use to be the **** out of it, and the really impressed me, I took my drivers test in it and he use to let me borrow it and I loved it....the one the darkside I got a 94 prelude and I loved that car but there was something missing, and it wasent really my style, and when I joined the Airforce I sold it....when I got stationed in virgina I found a black 94 proto LX with 100,000 miles on it for 2500$ with no flaws perfect paint, interior, engine and everything else except the fucked up driver side windows these cars have....I got it and I love it, I like it stock while everyone on base has mostly civics and cavaliers(junk) i love flying past them in my pro, and putting them where they belong LAST PlACE....I am currently saving to get either the mazdaspeed pro, or just and ex and turbo it and save a little but atleast the mazda speed has the suspension and everything all pimped out already

mazda till I die cause they wont
