I need power windows

What options do I have in terms of power windows? Someone told me just to get doors from an lx. Would I have the wiring harness or whatever already run to my doors, or not since I have a 323?

What about aftermarket power window setups? It would also be nice to have PDL incase I ever get an alarm down the road. Any advice??

Both are pretty simple to add. I have done many of these installs.

The windows, you have 2 choices, Universal or OEM style.

Universal is just a gear and motor assembly that slips over the hand crank gear. They are a little noisey and not totally smooth.

OEM, replaces the complete regulator. Very quiet, very smooth.

I am referring to the brand SPAL. They also make the best doorlock motors.

Look around your area or on the net, then get back to me, i'll see if i can beat the prices.

How hard was the install, or did you have someone do it for you?

the power locks? they wernt actully as hard to install as i thought they would be, all you have to do is take off the door panels and mount the actuator and then there is a metal rod that comes off of it and goes to the OEM lock system

the alarm system was... interesting, after you find all the wires from your car (dome light, door sensors, parking lights ect.) its pretty easy

i beleive the wiring goes up to the door boot plug but not into the doors. You may need the entire LX door harness, Switches and door panels. The LX has doorlock motors in only 3 doors, the drivers door has an internal switch to tell the other doors when to lock and unlock, it's built into the LX latch assembly.

It would probably be easier to add aftermarket doorlock motors than trying to track down and purchase all the LX parts. But the LX power windows wouldn't be too bad. But you'll still need the door panels for the switches. Electric Life makes a nice OEM style kit for non LX Protege models, (they mentioned to me that they WILL NOT work with already powered LX models, as i wanted to swap mine out awhile ago) comes with switch pods for the switches, not as OEM looking as your probably looking for, but there are many styles of switches, pods and bezels for installation.

According to my catalog for Electric Life, the Pro and 323 OEM part numbers match, but EL has different part numbers. It may just be the same part for both cars, despite the fact the 323 door is larger....i suggest you give the dealer a call and see what they say, and if they have both parts in stock, go down and give em an eyeball.

Electric Life Protege window kit
Front = MA25-K
(OEM part# B456 59 560C left & B456 58 560C right)
Rear = MA26-K
(OEM Part# B456 73 560B left & B456 72 560B right)

Electric Life 323 window kit
Front = MA18-K
(OEM part# B456 59 560C left & B456 58 560C right)

There are 2 styles of door panels for the first gens, 90-91 and 92-94. Sorry no pics to show. I like the 90-91 best, as you can easily customize the speaker grille, the 92-94 panels have the grille intergrated into the panel, and IIRC it's an odd size, looks like a 5x7 oval, although a 6.5" round resides behind it.

i had added the alarm wire colors and locations in the Car Electronics Forum, should be at the top with a sticky.

Connecting wires together is easy, but the general overall install takes experience, there's alot more to installation than connecting wire A to wire B But, hey good for you for getting it done.

Also, when installing doorlock motors, think linear....the proper angles and motion of the motor is very important for reliable action and not putting stress on the motor or connecting rods.

You can always just go to a wrecking yard that has cars on the lot that you can pick through. I found all four drive/motor assemblies for the windows, and I managed to get three door lock actuators, door switches for windows and locks and the wiring harnesses for the rear doors (from the pillar to the door). I do know I have to add the harness to the rear doors, but I'm not sure if the wiring in the pillar is there or not. Three actuators is fine for me. I just need power locks for the front doors. I don't know if I'm going to look for door panels so that I can mount the window/door lock switches. I think I might do something custom. I like the door panels on the DXs. They have less on them, and they look clean. I think it was around $50-80 for the pieces. I'm not sure on the price, because I pulled a lot more things than this, and my total was around $130.

Might be something to try, rather than spending that much for 3rd-party equipment.
The only drawback to this option, is that you might find equipment with small defects. The power window console for the driver side door has one switch with a broken spring. So, it just flops around. Although, I'll prolly take it apart and see if I can put something in there to act as a spring, otherwise it will continually roll down the window. Geh.

Word of caution, if you have to do custom wiring, it helps to draw it out on a piece of paper or something larger, so you can plan how it will work. Course, if you manage to find LX door panels, all you need is power going into the door and five wires from the driver door going out. One wire to each door for the windows, and one other wire to disable/enable the power for their switches.

BE VERY CAREFULL opening the switches...open them over a white sheet as there are plenty of tiny parts to lose...

BTW, those are good prices for the power windows, remember thats a complete regulator and motor assembly for each door.

Hey Darryl how would i look at spending just for the labor part of it? Like i said before i have an 94LX complete so i will be going with the power doors and windows too. You said you have done this many times right, how much would you charge me to do it i would be willing to take the 3 hour trip to L.A. Thanxs remember if you need anything off the LX let me know i will give you a great deal.

well, i have done many similar installs, but never a complete power upgrade on a protege. Let me think about whats all involved and i will get back to you. But off the top of my head...removal of all the LX parts, wiring harnesses, door latches, panels, switches, and we'd need to add a doorlock motor to the drivers door...plus more i'm sure...

I'll let you know.

BTW, is there a major problem with the LX? just wondering why are you parting it rather than driving it?

It would be nice to drive it but there is a major problem, the back end was crashed and the front right axle is broke. The top of the roof has been stood on by morons who like to destroy someone elses property and well as the hood. It would be too expensive to fix it so i am parting it out to pay for my projects.
