Well the first time i actually decided i wanted a protege was when my insane friend bought one. Now this was murder on a 91 lx protege. He did EVERYTHING he could to kick the **** out of it. It had around 120k and he would do roll backs and redline it and drop it rip the ebrake and hold the gas letting it burn as he got out and held the gas down letting people take pictures. I dont remeber a time when he didnt get in it and kick the **** out of it . he sold it (still running fine) to a delership. Now if u got that protege theres a good chance your gonna have alot of problems. U prob didnt, but how do u know it wasn't treated like that ?

Your like 1-30 people who thinks there pro is a POS. To compare it to a ford is stupid. Ive driven my 93 lx protege for 30k and it has never had a problem. Most cars will run good if u baby them and take care of them

LOL.....

I know I had a ford escort a few years back, it was a piece, if you would take care of your car, and show it love, it will show it back, but if you go around kicking it, screaming at it about gas mileage, then it will be the POS you make it out to be......

I love Mazda, I love Nissan. I hate Ford, I hate Honda.

I don't give 2 ***** about ford "owning" part of mazda. It seems to me like ford is using Mazda stuff. Not the other way around. Goes to show that Mazda has the upper end.

This is hilarious, you guys take this too seriously.

Superdave: I got the car in this condition. I've had older American cars in far better shape.

Chastan: I wasn't saying anything about facts. DeaDLy93PRoTeGe
was:
"Its a little more than a proven fact Japanese Cars are better"

I maintain my cars meticulously. I'm not sure why this protege is such a wreck. I can't imagine two middle aged women have done to it what they did. I've gotten it working better though. Don't get me wrong fellahs, I like this much more than a honda or some automatic trannied bloated whale. However with a little 1.8 l engine I would think the thing would get better gas mileage for the power it sacrifices, since my 2.0 at home gets 37mpg and a lot more power.

DeaDLy93PRoTeGe: LIke I said i got the thing from an asian lady a few months ago. Didn't notice the problems till after. I like Ford, Uh I liked Rover when they had them, I like renault, BMW, British Fords. I can't say I hate any car model.

What really irks me is I do hate people raving about Japanese cars hating American cars and then turning around supporting illegal wars that use out money, take our rights and provoke terrorism against us so rich facks can get richer and more power over us and calling themselves patriots.

ok..........before you even get me started on the war, you better back it up a little bit.....

I was in the Navy.....I was sent home because I have one of the worst knee problems.... Its not even a thing on patriotism with me, so don't start mr "i like american cars cause I am a ******* PATRIOT"

You are barking up the wrong tree, its all a thing of that I like mazdas, and I know from experience about the escort, I was just throwing my 2 cents in on it. If you don't like the "freedom of speech" then get over it.

The war was for a good cause, but evidently hippies like you don't think so.....

Tell me something, what rights have we lost?

You do know that ALL Ford Probes are built by Mazda, in a Mazda plant (in Illinois), with Mazda engines. (OK, some were built with Ford V-6s).

Just because you got someone else's POS, you are going to bag on all Mazdas. And then you love your Ford-badged Mazda.

The biggest problem with the LX is that 5th gear is too short (seems like a Mazda problem with any sporty car) for higher speed cruising.

If you want to keep the car, stop complaining and fix the problems. If not, sell it and move on. It's that simple.

The Protege is a very reliable car if maintained right. What exactly are the problems you're concerned with ???
