Help me kill an idot....
...light/buzzer. While I always wear a seatbelt, my idot light and buzzer no longer are impressed, and have started intermittantly flashing/buzzing. Have tried laughing it off to my friends as a fart detector, but it is getting tiresome. Mazda Dealer wanted two Handfulls of cash to fix- anyone have an easy fix. Have tried unplugging the seat- no joy. Car is a 1991 323 hatchback. Thank you for your help.

as i just suggested in another thread, take a 20oz hammer and wait for it to beep, then whack away at your dashboard until it stops. this step will have to be done repeatedly, but eventually it will go away seriously, part of that how to was i think, finding the ground wire located in your console towards the back of your front passenger and driverside seats, behind the e-brake, right below your change tray (if you have one). the ground wire for the seat belt sensor sometimes comes lose and goes off or something. you're supposed to clean the contacts on that bronze/brass plate or something, i ****** forget... i would love to just put duct tape over the damn seatbelt sign, but it doesn't make the beeping go away, i've tried. to tell you the truth, i just blew it off and slam my fist on the dash and say, piece of ****, or i just take the seatbelt off entirely and let it fall on the rear floor and ignore the fact that i'm breaking the law... i'll have to take a look at it today or tomorrow, til then, bug the **** out of Groharlem6 on AIM personally until he tells you how to do it . just lookin out for you wil, haha, ZOLTAN?

I don't think Wil has this info around here anymore, or on his new website either. Here's what I did:
Remove the center console cover, two screws in the back, two in the front. Sit in the back seat. You'll see two round spool contacts with plastic cover plates. Pop off the cover plates. Under each one is a round contact disc with two wires attached. Pull one of the contact discs off and cut the wires from the disc. Strip the two wires back and splice them together with a crimp connection, or you could solder them together too. Just make sure you short together the two wires for one side first, then do the other side. If you want to, you can put the neutered discs back in place and replace the cover pieces. This is the ultimate fix - you'll never hear that damn beep again!

haha, you're ******* crazy, drop the car off, don't get a call for 4 days and when you call, get the run around and never get a definate answer... this process takes 15 minutes to 20 minutes, i'm doing tomorrow morning before work. recall or not, would you get your first gen pro repaired at a dealership period? get raped? 4-way screw driver, wire strippers and 15 minutes of your precious time to avoid 5 days in the shop, do it yourself
