Gotta get a whole exaust system...
Ahhhh.. rust finally got through my exaust pipes.. and this time its so bad that i can't cheat with little metal chunks to fill up the holes...
So I got to change it from the front to the rear...
I still got the stock motor (1991 LX) so i'd like to have advises on the piping size to use and what kind of muffler to put.
Next i took a good look at it from below while it was on the lift, and one of my "cardan's" boost was broken, the 2 front dust cover in the suspension and in the motor cage the head looked like the were three leaks from the seal under it... the is also corosion that pierced on the shielded part over the front exaust pipes...
Any advise on how to repair that mess?
THX
P.S. The 4x4 is in better condition than i tought! yeah!

2" Piping for good low/mid range power (autox racing)
2.25" for good high end power (drag racing)
mandrel bent when at all possible.
any muffler will work, but with a straight thru design i definetely suggest a resonator, a big one, like 18-22" long.
and a high flow cat.

thx protzero but i already have a stock muffler... i just wanted to boost performance a bit.
that aside my engine fall in red zone at 6000rpm if i put 2.25 piping will it put the power around 5.5k and7k? if so isn't it a bit rough for my little car to go there?
and if someone can explain to me the differences between mufflers i'd gladly read them!

good! i'll take a look...
are you from montréal too?
if so, what are the garages you go? cause i still have a weird screaming bug when i break... it doesn't seem to be the brakes though... maybe something really close to them...
oh well

Most of the muffler manufacturers have websites with pretty good info

You can see peak power is around 6300rpm and peak torque around 4900rpm. With 2" piping, the peak power will come down a hair and be lower in the band, and peak torque will be a hair more and also a bit lower in the band.

yes, redline on a SOHC is 6000, fuel cut at 6500.
2" piping will do fine.
use a degreaser spray to wash the engine, spray it on a WARM engine, let sit for about 15mins and then lightly hose it off.
DO NOT:
- spray water on the spark plugs directly
- spray water on the battery or harness plugs and connectors
- spray too much water period
DO:
pull the plug wires off the distributor (not from the plugs) and put them in a plastic bag and tape or rubber band the bag closed, do the same with the distributor.

wow.. degreasser is really cheap over here! i cleansed the bay for 4 bucks!
but i didn't saw my alternato when i spayed the stuff and i think the alternator and the wires around suffered a bit... the +charge light brightens and flickers in my dash... it is doing it pretty hazardously...
any ideas?
