Gas mileage query

I'm not sure if this belongs is drivetrain, but here goes. I swapped a 160 degree thermostat when I did my coolant flush. Now my gas mileage has gone down a little. I went from a 33-34 average to 29mpg. Do I need to go back to the 195?

I mainly do freeway driving. The best I've gotten was 38 on the way out to see my parents in Arizona. This was right after I swapped the head and before I changed the thermostat.

just curious....

i guess the 160 thermostat is not letting the engine operate at 'normal' temperature.....thus affecting mileage?!?....
how is the temperature gauge reading? did you notice a change after the swap?....

With the 195 the gauge was right at the halfway mark. After the swap, the needle is a little less then halfway. It does run better. And a little quicker.
