Front-end Mayhem (brake problems??)

well, i'm back from a 1 or maybe 2 week hiatus of not really posting ****, had to get some things straightened out, now back to the car. you guys have heard me complain from time to time about clicking, grinding, squealing, clunking... sounds from the front end of my car. well, guess what... 2 axles, 3rd set of brake pads, 1 resurface on a new set of rotors, 2 new front calipers, and 3 mechanics in 5 months... I HAVE NO ******* clue what the hells going on with my car. it's a never ending problem, the front end of my car ALWAYS has to make noise (you know, the noises you hear and compulsively WANT fixed before your ear drums burst!!). the slide pins on my calipers look good, no wear whatsoever, my pads are showing normal wear (though, this can be decieving by the squealing noise they make), my axles look fine, boots are intact and no grease has leaked out, the brake lines are unkinked and have been flushed... and yet, no mechanic can figure this **** out. i don't think i'm ever going to be happy on this topic, but again.. any suggestions guys?
peace

well i will go out a limb here and say your wheel bearing, as you apply your brakes it shifts the bearing into the bearing housing wall causing it to squeel

one way to test if your bearings are gone is to jack the front up and leave the tire on and grab the top and bottom and shake it, (push in and out) if its got some play you need new wheel bearings, if there no play your back to the drawing board

this is just a guess!!

I vagly remember reading a thread where someone had a similar type of noise (clunking sound?) and it ended up being the motor mounts. I want to say it was beachnut but don't hold me to that.

this is the one thing i haven't looked into, but i remember just in july, i got a ride in wil's 93 protege, and every so often... not really something it looked like he could control, he'd get this sickening noise out of the left rear wheel (maybe the right, i forget), and remembering what he said, it was the wheel bearing... which as i understand sucks on our cars? as you have to replace the entire wheel hub?? whats your take on this guys? also, once i replace the wheel bearing.. i'll have that looked at. the chugging sound you describe, again, not a controlled type of thing, but only happens when the wheel is cut all the way in one direction. i was thinking wheel rub.. but i have the stock tire sizes and springs?? must be the bearing getting thrown out, however, the thing to realize is that it's EVERY so often, not like everytime i pull that specific type of a turn. i'll have my mechanic look at it this wednesday and see what he can't do about it. thanks guys.
peace

you dont have to replace the entire wheel hub, you can buy just the bearing but the catch is you need a press to push it in, like what a machanic would have, thats where you pay the money

its easier to just get a wheel hub with a good bearing in it already, im getting to be an expert on the removal and instalation of them , im on my 3rd passenger wheel bearing so yes they do suck, i wish they had greese nipples

check tie rods and wheel bearings (ball joints). jack up the car, and tug on the tire, if your wheel moves side to side, its your tie rods (used for steering), if it goes up and down its your ball joint. remember your wheel must have no movement at all when you tug at it.

also, you may have fucked up your drive shaft (axel) which is very common on these rides. your axel boot doesnt have to be ripped or have have grease dripping out to be fucked up. you may pull one hard corner and give the throttle and there go your shafts. you can blow a new set in not even a week, depending on how u drive (like schumaker or grandma).

Also check out your control arms, these bearings get fucked on older cars, give them a look and take your wheel apart and move them around, that could also be the case!

then check the "cups that hold hor spring and shock, there's a "trust" bearing in the top cup that could be fucked rusted or seizing and it may be worth checking out!!!

good luck
