Cool Former '85 GLC owner

My first new car was an '85 GLC Deluxe 4-door 5-speed. I loved that car, and had it 11 years before it finally caught fire. The only problem I ever had with it was that the carburator was always acting up. The car never had a high idle of its own, though I could force it by hitting the gas just as the engine was about to die. Other than that, and that it threw a rod at 93K, it was a real trouper. My kids were born when I'd had the car one year, and so they spent a lot of their childhoods in the back seat. There was more crayon on it than you could imagine.

Over the years, the carb became more and more of a problem, so when it set fire to itself, I figured it was trying to tell me something. My next car was the '86 626, then the '93 MX-3. Now, I'm about to get that elusive 1st-Gen LX.

Anyway. The GLC was what got me interested in Mazdas in the first place, and I've become more and more attached as the years have gone by.

So would that '79 be considered a BC chassis?

My parents still have an '85 4-door delux GLC. It has about 200,000 miles and still putting along.

Anyone know if a BPT or B6T is a direct swap on this car?

I ask because the car only weighs about 1900lbs and would be the perfect sleeper.

Wow... Have they had any carb troubles with it?

no major probs yet. it still passes emissions in VA, but it spits out a little dark cloud at start-up.

my parents have replaced the fuel pump (recently) and have replaced much of the ignition system, but the GLC still has it's origional clutch.

CA emissions are much more stringent than the rest of the country, and trying to pass them is what finally killed my car. The engine fire was just the stake through the heart. I don't remember exactly how many miles it had at the end but 160K comes to mind. It could have been more though.
