Escort GT...Project?

Well this I had no clue where to put this, so i just put it here, cause it is somewhat off topic. But i recently found a 1991 Escort GT for sale... 1600 bucks. Heres the deal though, the body is VERY straight, perfect paint, just minor rust over wheel wells... otherwise no interior or exteriior problems, Very clean. It has 141k on the clock, the engine is ticking and not in too great of shape, but still runs relatively strong from what we could tell. Also, knowing this dealer, we should beable to knock off 600 bucks and get it for 1k.

Now i was wondering, ive seen alot of BPT swaps going on lately, and would it really be a worthwhile project to start with a EGT? Complexity wise and expense wise what would it cost to do a bpt swap into this and turn it around and sell it.

Basically me and a friend have been wanting a "group" project car, and this car looks to be a good starting point. What is you're guy's thoughts?

you know i have found that doing group projects are more of a hasle than a benefit, when thers something to buy one has money one doesn't, and so on. but yeah thats a good car to start with. good platform. good luck with that.

count on about a ~$3500 project to buy the car (at $1000) and swap in the BPT.

It sounds like a good idea. The EGT is a 1st gen lx protege with a escort shell and IMO its worth swapping in a motor. But doing it with friends is a bad idea one of u could get attached and not wanna sell it leaving the other to wait for his share of the money back (1500). The swap will cost 2000-2500 with a gtx ecu and will be around 200 hp ...Jon

Go for it.. I have a 91 EGT. They are great cars. They have their share of ford problems, but worth it. Not to mention you'll save about 200lbs (compared to a 91 pro lx) I think 323s are some of the best project cars however.

dude, why don't you stop messing around and concentrate on your se-r? (if you still have it). They are perfect project cars... And you already have one! Durrrrrrr!

The EGT is not 200lbs lighter than the Pro LX. At most, it is 15lbs lighter, and most of that is a higher level of standard equipment on the Protege. The published weights for a base model are 2465lbs for ther EGT and 2480lbs for the Protege.
