engine stalling when stepping on Gas

Hi,

I just bought an intake kit from ebay and installed it on my 1990 Protege LX 5 Speed. It ran fine for 2 minutes. After that, when i step on the gas, you can hear a phut phut sound. And the engine just want to stalled out. Took it to a well know shop and they told me i need a new Mass air meter and the hoes from that.

And get this, they want to charged me about $600 for labor and new parts. I told them what if i want a used part and they told me around $300 total. I would probaly installed it myself but i can't remove the wire from the mass air meter.

Any advice would be helpful.

buy someone elses stock air flow meter and swap it in. or take out the kit you bought from ebay and reset your car's computer by disconnecting the negative on ur battery for like 5 minutes

you might want to just buy an rx7 air flow meter while you're at it....supposedly they give a bit more power. that is what i will do when i get the chance!

Too late,

bought the part at the junkyard for $150 plus $100 for labor and engine dianogtics. I know i got ripped off.

Oh well.

i have the same problem

WARNING TO ALL MEMBERS BUYING INTAKES OFF OF EBAY...

apparently the mass air meter is very sensitive so don't go tugging or pushing at it over aggressively or this will happen to you.

Bought an intake filter and adapter off of ebay. for $10 u get an adapter that doesn't fit, fitler that barely fits due to it's large size. installed the new intake but the car would not start. went back to stock intake, the air would not flow.did adjustments and got it to start and run but when gas was let go, it would die automatically. will getting a new mass air meter fix this whole thing and get my car running? sure it is not any problems with sensors that lay around the tube area? any suggestions, this is my only car and ireally need help.

did you remove the mass air flow sensor? If yes, did you take the two screw off? Try a new mass air flow sensor. If you want a new one from the dealer, it's going to cost you like $400. Their is no aftermarket part for it. Next best thing is get it from the junkyard. Hope it work out for you.

what do u think about searching at OEM retailers for the air flow meter? will the price be outragous? im taking it to the shop to see if it is anything else that might cause this problem. seriously i don't know how i could have messed this up.

The price will be outrageous for an OEM mass air flow sensor. YOur best bet is the junkyard.
