I have a 91 DX that is used primarily for commuting - mostly interstate at 60/70 mph. The DX has no tach, but I would like to know the revs/mile or revs at 60mph.

Gro Harlem's website shows 3000 rpm at 60 mph, apparently for the LX. Some algebra with final drive ratios leads to approx. 2400 rpm at 60 for the DX. Does this sound correct?

The reason I ask is that I am considering replacing the DX with a Mazda 3, but the 3 runs about the same ratios as the LX - 3000 rpm at 60 mph. I would like something more long-legged than that.

For anyone with a DX and tach, is my algebra correct?

 

that sounds about right. my '93 DX loafs along at ~2400RPM @ 60MPH in 5th gear.

why would you want something more long-legged than that? most new cars have sufficient noise dampening engineered in that you won't feel or hear the higher RPMS. granted, i always wished my old audi 4000 was more long legged because of the noise of the higher RPMs, and i would also feel that way if my '93 were an LX and thus had the shorter gearing, but i wouldn't worry about it on a new car.

 

yeah, i have a dx and put in a tach, it revs at 3000 rpms at 70. so you could be right. i forget what it is at 60.
