Mileage

When the car was new in 91 I could get 40-42 mpg on long open-raod trips to go hunting or fishing. This was typically Philadelphia to North-Central PA. No traffic, low speed limits, and hungry state troopers. Now it is about 30-32, but most of my driving is in heavy traffic but on Interstates.

I get somewhere between 20 (yes!! ) and about 33... automatic though. I don't know if I've ever gone once without at least one or two spirited accelerations.

Just for reference, the EPA ratings for the DX/SE were 28/36 for the 5 speed and 24/31 for the auto. I got much better gas mileage when mine was new. The fact that the speed limit everywhere was 55mph probably helped.

errr, metric or standard

badass, i know you can't be using metric system, am i right? then where the hell you do your driving to get 37 to 48 mpg?

p.s. what cheap gas saver? i'm confused.. and a comparison, my gas mileage averages 13.5 to 15.6 mpg.. bout 180 miles until the fuel light comes on and it's under a 1/4 tank, lol

Winter 28-30 mpg, summer 32-34. Usually drive 300 miles before light comes on and I fill up, but there is always like 3-4 gallons left, so max range is probably around 400/tank. Its a stick shift also.

I still get at least 30. Can't tell u how far a gas tank goes exactly, but I can tell u that I can drive for a good 5 or 6 hours before refilling.

I think that 3 inch exhaust tip is weighing him down.

I've got a manual transmission, 1991 DX w/153,000+ miles which is getting between 34 & 40 MPG.

If it's exclusively highway driving, I've gotten over 40 MPG before.

i get between 20 and 25 mpg it seems with my '94 dx sohc protege, ive only had it for about a month now, but everything in it looks and sounds to be in good shape, what could be causing me to get such low gas mileage compared to you guys?

i replace the spark plugs and added a cone air filter and i usually use 89 octane fuel. thanks guys.

I remember hearing somewhere that it doesn't make a difference in the Protege if you use higher-than-87-octane gas. Correct me if I'm wrong.
