Drove 94 LX w/65k today

well, got to drive and compare a 94 to my 91...

the engine was smooth and peppy - seemed well taken care of.

the 5sp was also smooth, BUT it had a LOT of FREE PLAY in it! when you had it in gear - say 4th - i could move the shifter like 2 inches side to side... any idea why????

my 91 has NO free play in it when in gear...

asking price is $3500 which i def think is a good deal - i just don't like the 94 front face and taillights...

bty, the power windows worked GREAT almost made me wonder if mazda used new a setup in the 94!

shifter bushings is reason it has freeplay. and 65k?? DAMN!! i bought mine for $4800 94 DX, with 96k on it. but its in EXE cond. interior is almost mint and ouside only had a few small un-noticible scratches. other than that its like a brand new car!
----

so go buy that car. that would be cool!

yeah, i'm thinkin 'bout making an offer....the car even has the original red spark plug wires... it needs some cleaning; and the ruby red paint looks good, but has been messily touched up in several places...no rust on the sunroof

its a tossup - i either want to get another 1st gen in good shape or spend the $$ on redoin my car

my car spent 5 years in Montana; salt, snow, rocks, etc has rusted it up - the rear suspension/underbody esp is in bad shape

it needs:
air conditioning fix - don't know - prob $$$
new bushings, struts, etc
rust removal esp under rear
completely new paint and some bodywork, inc new sunroof lid(mine lots a rust) - $1500
RR caliper needs replacing - parkin brake doesn't release
clutch job - have held off installin fidanza )
'cause of poss of another car

so....$$ for 'new' better shape Pro, or $$$ for 'new' 'new' Pro with FUN performance stuff in the mix....

Can these be bought, and are they easy to change? My Escort Gt has 186,000mi and the shifter has a lot of play (especially 3rd). I thought it was just the tranny getting sloppy.
