Door Speakers & Headlight lens

Ok, dropped a CD player & some speakers in the Mazdarati this weekend. Crutchfield & the stereo shop said 5.25" front & rear. Took them home .... WRONG .... the 5.25" fell through the openings. Went back and got 6.5" ... still too small, they wouldn't reach the holes. 3rd trip, I got some 6.75" Rockford FRC2206's, they fit perfectly. Then last night on my way through Arby's drive through, as I rolled the window down ... BAM!! Then I rolled the passenger window down ... BAM!! My windows are hitting the speakers!
What speakers (size, make & model) are everybody running in the front doors?

Next in my book of questions:
My factory headlight lenses on the Mazdarati are very dirty & foggy looking. Can these be cleaned? Or do I have to buy new housings or lenses?

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

that's why they want you to use 5.25 speakers.....because of the depth. I went through a lot of trouble trying to find speakers that would fit in my doors. The problem is the depth. If they are too deep the windows will hit when you roll them down, like you mentioned. I don't believe the later first gens had this same problem...i think it's just the 90-91 models. Anyway..i finally solved my problem by getting a pair of Kenwood 5 1/4" speakers. If you look in a crutchfield catalog they are the thinnest speakers that they sell....

As for those headlights, it's a common problem, however, easily fixed in most cases. I know there is a post on a message board for this somewhere, but I'm not sure it's this one, so I'll just tell you the magic recipe. You'll need: nail polish remover, rubbing compound, scratch remover, a good bottle of liquid wax.

I'm not sure if I'm remembering the order of things right here, or if it even matters but if you do this a couple of times you'll definitely see an improvement.

Start by cleaning off the lenses with the nail polish remover, and a piece of a towel, or something equally abrasive. You'll want to use a lot of elbow grease, and the fumes will be pretty strong. After you clean off the lenses get your rubbing compound ready. Use it on the lenses. I don't think it requires an explanation really. Then buff it off. Then do the same with the scratch remover, and finally the wax so give it a beautiful shine.

You might have to repeat this process a couple of times before it gets any better. Mine were pretty bad but they cleared up about the third time I did it. Good Luck!

Hey bro, this is what has to be done...
I had the same problem. Take your grilles off the front spearker pannels located on the door. Not behind the door pannel on the metal. Where the fabric is on a DX. Install the front speakers where the old Stock Speaker Grilles were. no drilling needed. I wasted a day tryin to put them into the dooors metal....waste of a good day!! Same for rear deck on any 1st-2nd gen. Install it on the deck board not on the metal frame under the board. Easier to work on and fix if a problem goes wrong with em. Unlike having to take out the whole door pannel to get to the speaker in front or taking out the 3rd tail for back.

If you need some photos on how i did mine and the HOW TO jus gemme a shout in my e-mail and ill get back to u ASAP...hope i helped ya out some

BTW i have 4 Kenwood 5.25's. 2 in front, 2 in rear. and they sound good....if u want more bass out of speakers get 6.5'
s in front and 6x9 or 5x7 customly fit for rear.

P.S. 6.5's fit in front doors and rear deck boards on first gens with not cutting of the deck and door pannels!!!!

Talking Thanks Guys!

Thanks for the info. After a little experimentation, I got a set of Blowchunck (Blaupunkt) 6.5" speakers in the front door with window clearance. I'll post the model number when I get home.

What a way to clean those headlight covers .... have you been watching McGyver? I'm gonna try that this weekend. But my wife was sure suspicious when I asked to borrow her finger nail polish remover

When I get the lenses cleaned, what kind of light bulb should I use for the brightest light? Obviously I'm not going to buy a true HID conversion.

Thanks Again.

I know it sounds pretty suspicious, but trust me... it really clears up those dirty lenses. Tell your wife not to worry, you just messed up when you were painting your nails. Then she might really start to worry about you...hehe.......

speakers

I run 5.25 alpine up front. The holes won't fit any other size, and I run 6.5" alpine in the back.
