You all may have heard my dillema with pepboys and their axles a few months ago.
Well these past few weeks ive been feeling a vibration off and of from the front of my car. Just yesterday i had a tech at my work take a drive with me to determine where the vibration was coming from. He said it was deffinatly an axle, and to take it back to where i bought em from. Which was right across the street at PepBoys.

I went over there gave em the recipts and told em that they needed to replace the axles cause they were bad. I had to fight wieht them to finnally pay the labor cost since they would not warranty that. The axlefell under extended coverge.

Well after the axle was replaced they called and told me the firt guy who installed my axle busted a CV/Transaxle gasket on the transmission and my tranny was leaking a handful of fluid every few mins. This is why my car was grinding a bit. (I think).

So my car is still sittin there waiting for the part for the tranny. Its a rubber gasket that broke when the axle was installed the first time. Now this is the 3rd Axle on my car in less than a year. I replaced both axles back in august and june. Now the drivers side is being replaced again here in Dec.

Tip: Go with Oem Equipment. Dont go for Aftermarket ****. I will now be gettin everything from my dealership. Nothin from Autozone or Pepboys. Lasts longer, and built better. May cost more. but you get what u pay for.

I know how you feel...I won't trust my car to big name companies anymore either (except wal-mart, they do fine with my oil change)

There's a store called canadian tire here and I'm never taking my car to them again

Example 1: I take my old car (Beretta) in for an alignment. They tell me the A-arm is cracked and I need a new one. I pay for alignment, drive car, still pulls.
Example 2: I take my new car (Protege) in for an alignment, they tell me (forget the name, but it makes your steering wheel return to center or whatever) is seized, I pay for alignment, drive car, still pulls.
Example 3: I take Protege to get chugging fixed, they say fuel filter, I pay, drive car, chugs WORSE.

Finally I took it to my local mechanic, car runs and drives great now....turned out to be that 2 plugs were fouled and it needed plugs and wires, cap and rotor. And alignment isn't perfect, but much better than it was.

I would get your car out of Pep Boys NOW and take it to a certified technician...cause it will just screw up down the road again. If Pep Boys is anything like canadian tire, there's just a bunch of flunkies working under the supervision of certified techs.

I had gotten a tire replaced on my old car. I needed 185/60/14. It was dark when I went home. The next day I noticed that the tire looked a little different. I got 195/60/14's. Now, I will only go there for packaged items i.e. oil, filters, etc.

Choose your mechanic like you choose your doctor or dentist.

Well I have a friend that used to work at Pepboys and he toll me that the techs there make their money by selling parts that your car don't need. Struts, brakes, tires, are the most common. He quit and went to work for Toyota. I haven't taken my car to a mechanic in a long ... long time, I do all the repairs my sellf, I only take it to a shop for oil change and of course they always find something wrong with the car. To choose your mechanic like your doctors sounds good to me too.

I went to PepBoys for a replacement halfshaft for my '90LX. Having had previous problems, I measured the axle side-by-side with the original. It was close, but 1/4" too long. I wound up going with an Autozone halfshaft.

This was surprising, since PepBoys was the only store with had the correct halfshaft for my GF's parent's Toyota Corolla (which was a rare Japanese-made model, while most of that year were American-made). But only one was the correct part. The other one wound up having to be rebuilt (which took about 4 hours) for the same price.

Early nineties corolla? Guess you had the VIN that started with J instead of 4 or something like that. The japanese ones also have different size wiper blades. Sorry just had to chime in, it's bin a bit of source of confusion for getting my camry parts. lol

Either late-'80s or early 90's. Things like the distributor cap, which costs $65 rather than $10, are completely different. Don't know why. Honda can make the same car on three separate continents, but Toyotas made in Japan for the US market use different parts than the US-made cars.
