Belt Squeek? Valve Tap?

Well here is the deal a few weeks ago, my friend was lookin over my car and he heard this weird tapping noise. He told me that it was a valve tap, and i should get rid of the car or get a new engine. I was like WTF it cant be a valve tap. So i bought some ValveMedic Stuff by GUNK @ pepboys this afternoon. It seemed to quiet down my engine some but still, i have a small tapping. Sounds like the belts.
Any suggestions on what to do? Tighten? Belt Lubercation stuff??

thanx

my **** is really loud.....especially when it's cold outside and right when I crank the car I hear the tapping you mentioned.....

it's weird, but I too think it's something with the belts...

mine does it to... it's probably just a 1st gen problem :| that's ok though... i think i got rid of all of mine though, or a hell of a lot of it. this weekend i did an oil change and put some of that zmax shnit you see on tv (i got mine from advance auto parts) and some of that lucas oil stabalizer in... engine runs like a champ... feels a lot smoother and runs quieter... i've only been running it for a couple of days... so i'll post again in about a week or two to update you guys on whether it works as good as it seems or not i will tell you one thing, the lucas isn't to pricey, but the zmax on sale was like $30, but i got the whole engine kit (oil additive, tranny additive, fuel additive, and some gay litte 2 stroke engine additive for lwanmowers or something, lol)

peace

Like Jesse said, you definitely won't have to replace the engine because of it. It's a symptom of poor engine maintenance. All you need to do, is clean out your oil real goooood.
Try this link: HLAs. This link was provided by Jesse, sometime ago.
It's a good source of info on cleaning out the oil system.

The fourth paragraph in the Solutions section contains steps on cleaning the oil system and making sure good oil is in the engine afterwards, but read the entire article!

Later on.
