autometer gauges

whats the difference of the mechanical and electronic gauges?
does the installation differ?

the difference is that electronic guages will require you to use a sending unit that basically transforms the mechanical activity...say water temp... into electrical current which then is displayed on the guage face. a mechanical water temp guage is going to actually have a long flexible thermometer to measure the temp at the point where it is inserted into the cylinder head. this would be the same for oil pressure and volts you get the picture.

if you want a simple install go with the mechanical. as long as you buy a set of decent guages the install on mechanical guages should be pretty straight forward.

i know this because when i'm not messing with my pro i have an ongoing streetrod project [1940 plymouth] that i put electronic guages in and they still don't work as well as i'd like them to. also i've been told the mechanicals tend to give more accurate measurements but i'm not sure if there is a real difference.
